Episode 548. Enjoy. Let's go back in time. Today's expression is really simple, but will you remember it? The expression is, yes siree, Bob. Yes siree, Bob.

Yeah, that's it. And this expression simply means, yes. Yes. But it is what we call an emphatic yes. I'll spell that. E-M-P-H-A-T-I-C. Emphatic yes. Which means not just yes, but yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Absolutely yes. Yes! It's a funny way of saying yes. The expression again is, yes siree, Bob. And I'll spell that too. It's actually three words. Yes, Y-E-S, Siree, S-I-R-E-E, Bob, B-O-B as in the man's name, Bob.

And there's some punctuation too. Yes, comma, Siree, comma, Bob. And believe it or not, we do use this expression a lot in daily English. It's a silly expression.

It just means yes. So if somebody says, do you like English? You can say, yes, sirree, Bob. It's a great expression. Check out the dialogue. Um, I'd like to upgrade my internet speed to ultra.

No problem. Can you come out with the new modem tomorrow? Yes siree, Bob. You bet. Yes, indeed. Yes, indeedy. Yes, sirree, Bob. It has no special meaning except absolutely you.

You bet we will. It's a nice, funny expression. And remember, it is a casual expression. So if a police officer stops you and asks for your driver's license, can I have your driver's license?

Yes, sirree, Bob. No, that's probably not the best time to use that expression. If your father says, are you going to get a job? Yes, sirree, Bob. No, that's probably not the best time to use that expression.

You use it in a more casual situation. The example I gave you was a business situation. And believe it or not, in America, we do have business. Some guys, you know, who install cable and, you know, the mailman, and they talk like that.

They really do. So I don't mind. I think it's kind of cool. Yes, sirree, Bob. That's the expression. Do you think I have another expression for you? Maybe tomorrow?

Hopefully tomorrow. Well, if it is tomorrow, then absolutely. Yes siree, Bob. I certainly do. That's today's expression. Check it out two more times. I'd like to upgrade my internet speed to ultra.

No problem. Can you come out with the new modem tomorrow? Yes siree, Bob. Um, I'd like to upgrade my internet speed to ultra. No problem. Can you come out with the new modem tomorrow?
