Easy English Expression Rehashed Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions Come on, let's master English Hey everyone, welcome to Daily English Expression. Today, we're exploring a word for those moments when someone takes a very long time to say something that could have been said much more simply. Let's jump in and see how you can use it naturally.
Episode 540. Enjoy! Let's go back in time. Today's expression is very good. It's an adjective. Long-winded. Somebody is long-winded. He is long-winded.
I am long-winded. I hate long-winded people. Oh, it was too long-winded. L-O-N-G. Long. With a hyphen. A small dash. Winded. W-I-N-D-E-D. Long-winded.
What does this mean? Well, wind... In the weather, we have the wind, right? A long wind. Or longer than that. I guess it's not that long. If somebody is long-winded, it means they talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.
Check out the dialogue. Are you watching C-SPAN? Yeah. Ah, those guys are so long-winded. How can you watch? It helps me fall asleep. Ah, yes. In America, we have many, many TV stations, and one TV station is called C-SPAN.
That's a big C, a dash, S-P-A-N. C-SPAN is American government TV. Yep, that's all it is. It's a camera that shows American government and their meetings and their discussions.
And it shows the elected representatives, the senators, and it shows them speaking and giving speeches and Oh my God, it's so boring. Now, sometimes it is exciting depending on the issue, but usually it is extremely boring. So this is actually a really good thing.
If you want to take a nap and it's difficult to fall asleep in America, you can just watch C-SPAN. And within five minutes, you'll probably fall asleep because every politician who gets up to talk is so long winded and they don't say anything. Usually they talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, and they just say the same thing over and over and over again. Oh boy.
Yeah. It's frustrating. And sometimes I worry because I know, trust me, I am aware that some of my podcasts and videos, I know sometimes they get a little long-winded. And when they are, when I'm too long-winded, I apologize.
