easy english expression rehashed hello everybody my name is coach shane and welcome to easy english expressions come on let's master english Welcome back to Easy English Expression. Today is episode 514.
We'll look at an expression that means searching everywhere and trying every possible option to find an answer or solve a problem. Join my community. It's free. School.com slash L-M-E. S-K-O-O-L dot com slash L-M-E. Now, let's get started.
Let's go back in time. Today's expression is very good if you're looking for something to leave no stone unturned. To leave, L-E-A-V-E, to leave no stone, S-T-O-N-E, no stone, not any stones, no stone, N-O, no stone, unturned, U-N-T-U-R-N-E-D.
So this is the idea. You are looking for your keys. You cannot find them. You look in your desk. You look in your drawer. You look in your pockets. They are nowhere.
Well, eventually you keep looking and looking and looking everywhere. You look in books and under magazines and in the sofa, in the bathroom. You're looking everywhere. In this situation, if you really are looking everywhere –
You are leaving no stone unturned. And the idea, even outside, when you see a stone, you pick up the stone, you turn over the stone looking underneath the stone. So you're not only looking on top, you're looking underneath.
You are leaving no stone unturned. This is a good expression. When you're looking for something, don't lose anything. Let's check out the dialogue. Did you find them yet?
No, I'm still looking. Leave no stone unturned. I need them. How can anyone lose their glasses? Oh, there's a good example. I wear glasses and I need my glasses.
But can you believe sometimes I lose my glasses? Sometimes I cannot find my glasses. It's true. It happens. Usually, for example, when I go to bed, I put them on the nightstand to my right.
On my right side, there's a nightstand. But sometimes I leave them on the pillow or I leave them on the blanket and I forget about it and I fall asleep and then I move around or the cats knock them down and I can't find them. And oh my goodness, I go crazy. And when I can't find my glasses, I really do go crazy.
I get hyper and I leave no stone unturned until I find those glasses unturned. Yeah. Have you ever lost anything, something important like your keys or maybe a report, maybe a CD?
What else is there that's really important? Your glasses, of course. Tell me the last thing that you lost. And tell me how long it took to find it. And tell me if you were leaving no stone unturned.
It's a great expression. You use it when something's lost. Check out the dialogue two more times. And together, let's master English. Did you find them yet?
