It's already started. It's a great time to start new, to start fresh, kind of like January 1st. And today's expression is that. It's like really tied closely to that meaning.

Let's go back in time. I like today's expression. It's a great one. It is to turn over a new leaf. To turn over. T-U-R-N-O-V-E-R. New. N-E-W. Leaf. L-E-A-F. Now, most people, when they hear this expression...

especially the last word leaf, L-E-A-F, they think of a tree. So on one side, the tree leaf is very green. And then if we turn it over to the other side, it seems to be a lighter green and not as pretty, right? I don't know.

But anyway, that's actually not the leaf this expression refers to. Did you know that if you have a book, the pages in a book, each page can be called a leaf?

Yes, that piece of paper is a leaf, a leaf of paper. So to turn over a new leaf means to turn over a new page, right? And it's easy to think of it this way.

To turn over a new leaf means to start a new page or even to start a new chapter in your life. Turn over a new leaf. So the idea is you stop something old that was no good, or you start something new that will be good. Maybe you are graduating from high school, graduating from college, and you're about to begin a job or something like that.

You are turning over a new leaf. You're starting new. You're starting fresh. It's a great expression. It gives inspiration to many people. Let's check out the dialogue.

Is that tea? Yeah, no more coffee for me. Oh, you stopped drinking beer too? Did you turn over a new leaf? Yeah, I'm trying to be more healthy. You know, there is no time better than right now if you want to turn over a new leaf.

Some people want to, you know, they want to wait to the beginning of the year or they want to wait till their birthday or they want to wait to the beginning of the month. Well, right now it is August 31st, 2015. Tomorrow is actually the beginning of the month, September 1st. But hey, if you're thinking about

starting something new, then don't wait till tomorrow. Don't wait till next week. Don't wait till January 1st. Start it today. Turn over a new leaf right now.

Start it today. I'm serious. It's a great idea. If you're thinking of quitting something, quitting smoking or quitting coffee or quitting alcohol, something like that, well, do it.

Start. Start. Start now. Turn over a new leaf right now. Now remember, even though we turn over a new leaf, sometimes we still have failures, but we still keep going.

We persevere. We keep going. We don't give up. We understand that, yep, sometimes we're going to make a mistake. Like for me, this is a very important day for me.

It has been one year since I quit smoking. One year. And no smoke. No smoking at all. Isn't that amazing? Now, I tried to quit smoking many, many times.

So many times in my life, I turned over a new leaf. But last year, actually on August 30th, I quit. It stopped. And I'm successful. Don't smoke anymore.

I turned over a new leaf on August 30th. I'm getting myself healthy and I'm feeling really healthy. Oh, I still drink coffee and I still have an occasional beer, but I don't smoke.

So what about you? Is there something you need to do? You need to start or you need to quit? Is there a new leaf you want to begin? Then turn over a new leaf now.
