Today's expression... Oh, it's terrible. To be slapped... With a fine. To be slapped with a fine. What is a fine? A fine. F-I-N-E. A fine, well, that's like a ticket.

So if you're driving too fast, the police might give you a ticket. You might have to pay money. That money is a fine. Sometimes if you go to the library and you check out a book, you take a book,

You have to return it after two weeks. But if you are late, you have to pay a penalty. That penalty is a fine. So a fine is a penalty that you have to pay money.

You have to pay for doing something wrong. To be slapped. S-L-A-P-P-E-D. Now, to slap, that actually means to... somebody or something with your open hand.

So you might slap your friends back. Hi, John. How are you doing? If you're angry at ladies, if you're angry at your husband, you might slap his face.

That's very painful. Don't do that. But this is the idea to slap. So to slap means to hit with an open hand. Now, to be slapped with a fine, no, that doesn't mean the police slap you in the face with a ticket.

It just means they gave you a ticket and that ticket is painful. It's embarrassing. Just like if a wife slaps her husband in public. Or if my mother slaps my butt in public if I did something wrong as a child, of course.

That would be embarrassing. It's painful. Yeah. Have you ever received a fine? Were you embarrassed? Was it a bit painful? Well, then you can say, I was slapped with a fine.

Check out the dialogue. Huh? You're late. I'm sorry. I made an illegal U-turn. Did they let you go? No. I got slapped with a fine. are the police in your country are they very strict if you speed or if you do something illegal do they stop you and give you a ticket in america where i live it's no joke and the police are always parked waiting for somebody to do something wrong so an illegal u-turn is

That's an automatic fine. Absolutely, they give you a fine. So, so far, since I've been back in America, no tickets. When I was younger, oh yes, I received many tickets.

But now I'm an older man. I'm very mature. I never speed. I do my best to follow the laws. I'm a good citizen. Yes, it's true. What about you? When was the last time you were slapped with a fine?

It happens. It could happen to me tomorrow. You know, it doesn't mean we're a bad person. Maybe we were, I don't know, using our cell phone or maybe we forgot.

You know, it happens. Just be careful, especially if you're driving and with those library books, too. And if you're rented a DVD or something like that, be careful. Be careful, everybody.
