easy english expression rehashed hello everybody my name is coach shane and welcome to easy english expressions come on let's master english Hello, everybody. E-Cube number 462. This is a fun word.
Finally, we're learning something fun. The spelling is cool. The pronunciation is cool. And when you use it, you sound cool. It's really a cool word. E-Cube number 462.
Enjoy it. Let's go back in time. Today's expression is great. Listen, see if you can spell the word. Are you ready? Here we go. Pizazz. I'll say it again.
Pizzazz. Can you spell that? P-I-Z-Z-A-Z-Z. That's a lot of Zs. That's right. Pizzazz. Pizzazz. What is pizzazz? Well, first of all, this is how we use it.
We need some pizzazz. I want to add a little pizzazz. This doesn't have any pizzazz. So pizzazz is a noun, a non-count, an uncountable noun. We never say possesses.
It's only pizzazz. And what does it mean? It basically means excitement or interest. So if you want to add excitement to something, if you want to make something more interesting, you need to add pizzazz.
So I'll give you an example. Yesterday, I cooked some meat and it was good. I talked about it yesterday in my podcast, actually. You know, meat is good.
Meat is fine. You can barbecue it. You can cook it on the stove. You can bake it in the oven. You can put it in a soup. It's always good. But, you know, I wanted to try something interesting.
So I took balsamic vinegar. And rosemary, the spice or the herb, H-E-R-B, American pronunciation, herb. And I sautéed it. I cooked it a long time in this heavy, you know, vinegary, rosemary-tasting soup kind of thing.
And I cooked it that way. Something really unique for me. I think it's a little bit European. Wow, that completely added pizzazz to the meat. It became much more exciting, much more flavorful, much more interesting.
It was great. Let's give another example. I can only think of food. What about ice cream? I love ice cream. My favorite ice cream is vanilla. But just vanilla ice cream is sometimes boring.
Yeah. So what can we add to ice cream to make it more exciting? Can you think of something? Uh-huh. Yeah. You guys send a tweet. That's right. I'm not going to give you my ideas.
You tell me your idea. And if you tweet me your idea, I will retweet you. So follow me on Twitter, everybody, at Coach Shane. I got another example in the dialogue.
It's about food. And I'll give you some other examples after we check it out. Here we go. How's the stew? It's okay. A little bland. I should have added cumin.
Yeah, that would have given it some pizzazz. stew s-t-e-w stew is like a soup it's a heavier soup but the soup the stew rather was a little bland b-l-a-n-d not a lot of flavor it's good it's healthy but you know kind of boring so this guy says i should have added cumin c-u-m-i-n that's a spice and it's actually very hot if you add cumin to food oh it gets very spicy
That would have given the stew some pizzazz, definitely. Made it more exciting, made it more interesting, made it more flavorful, made it more colorful even.
So let me give you another example. How about a resume? R-E-S-U-M-E. So when you apply for a job, you need to send the company a resume. It has your name, your address, your education background, your work experience, things like that, right?
Now, there are many ways to write a resume, but how can you add some pizzazz to your resume? Now, if you're sending a resume to a bank, Do you want to add pizzazz?
Not regarding design or color or font, right? You want to keep it very standard. However, by choosing very accurate and active verbs in your resume, you can add some pizzazz.
Let's say you're sending a resume to a design company. Now you can add color and little special designs and different fonts to your resume, giving it some pizzazz.
Giving something pizzazz is not always good, but it's usually okay. It is making something more exciting, making it more interesting, giving it some flavor, giving it some color.
That's the idea. So my podcast, if you listen to my podcast, I've got music in the beginning, music at the end, you know, some silly sounds sometimes here and there. Why do I do that?
To give my podcast a little pizzazz. Okay, everybody. So once again, vanilla ice cream, delicious ice cream. I do like it plain, but sometimes we might want to add a little pizzazz.
So what can we add to vanilla ice cream to give it some pizzazz? I want you to leave a message on Facebook, of course, or send me a tweet at Coach Shane.
And if you tweet me and tell me how to do it, I'll retweet you to millions of other people. Yeah, it's not millions. A couple thousand. Thank you very much, guys.
Listen to the dialogue two more times, and together, let's master English! How's the stew? It's okay. A little bland. I should have added cumin. Yeah, that would have given it some pizzazz.
