You're listening to EQ's Rehash number 453. Oh boy, today's expression is something I experience every day with my wife.

I hope you are safer than I am. Enjoy the expression and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Let's go back in time. So how was your day today? It's Sunday for me, Sunday night right now.

I had a very nice day. I went to a lion habitat. You know, those big lions. Yeah. Do you know we had a film studio in America called MGM? And at the beginning of the movie, they always had this little short video of a lion going,

Well, I saw that lion's grandchildren today. It was very exciting. It was very cool. And actually, sometimes it was really scary. It was really dangerous because there was a man who was feeding the lions with his hands next to the lions.

That's really dangerous. They could bite your hand off. I'm telling you, this guy... Was walking on thin ice. Oh, that's today's expression. On thin ice.

If you are walking on thin ice, you are walking, or you are rather, in a very dangerous situation. So this expression, thin ice. Imagine a lake. And it's the wintertime and it's very cold.

And the lake freezes. There's ice on top of the lake. Well, where I'm from in Wisconsin, the ice can get really thick. Like a meter thick. So we can drive on the ice.

We can have campfires on the ice. It's great. The wintertime where I'm from in Wisconsin is great. We do lots of things on the ice. But you have to be careful.

In the beginning of the winter and in the spring, is the ice one meter thick? No, no, no, no, no. The ice can be very thin, maybe just a centimeter. And if the ice is only a centimeter thick...

Do you want to walk on the ice? Do you want to drive on the ice? Absolutely not. It's too dangerous. You could fall through into the lake, into the freezing water, and you could drown.

It's very dangerous. So to be on thin ice, to walk on thin ice... means to be in a very dangerous situation, a very precarious situation. So that man today who was feeding the lions, he was feeding the meat, and he was putting the food into the lion's mouth?

Oh, very dangerous. He was on thin ice. I thought he was on thin ice. I would never do that. All right. Have you ever been on thin ice? I'm sure you have.

Let's check out a dialogue. Where are you? Oh, I'm still at work. It's 9 p.m. I came in late two days in a row. I'm on thin ice here. Oh, dear. Yeah. Do you have a job?

Do you get to work on time? Do you get to work early? Lots of people get to work just in time. Many people get to work a little bit late. That's not a good thing.

I understand going to – if you don't like your work, if you don't like your job, if you don't like your boss, going to work is painful. Oh, yes. I very much understand.

But if you go to work late consistently, like every day, once a week, that's not a good thing. You're on thin ice. The boss can easily get angry at you. The boss can easily maybe even fire you or at least not give you any benefits.

No vacation, not a day off. You're going to have to work longer, work harder. Oh, it's terrible. Yeah. Be careful. Don't get on thin ice. Getting on thin ice is not a good thing.

Many husbands and wives are on thin ice with each other. And guys, I'm telling you, if you're married, if you have a girlfriend and she says, she asks you a question, how do I look in this dress?

The safe answer, as you know, is, oh, wow, that's really nice. The dress looks great. The color is nice. Oh, I like it. That's basically the only answer you can ever use.

If you're too honest, oh my God, your butt looks huge. Oh, what is that? A camping tent? Where did you get that color? From a circus? No. You are very much on thin ice.

In fact, you're probably dead. Be careful. Don't get on thin ice. Don't go out on the ice when it's too thin. Be careful. We use this expression like this.

I'm on thin ice. You're going to be on thin ice. We are on thin ice. Don't be on thin ice. Be safe. Be safe, everybody. Have a fantastic week. And check out that dialogue a couple more times.
