To scoff at something. To scoff at someone. Now, how do we use this expression? Well, sometimes people say something that you completely disagree with.

You think it's stupid. It's ridiculous. For example, somebody might say, oh, my God, do you know Coach Shane, the English teacher? Oh, he's so handsome.

And you think, what? He is so ugly. And your response is, what are you talking about? Get out. What? No way. Your reaction is scoff, to scoff. You are scoffing at what that person said.

The person said, Coach Shane is so handsome. And you are scoffing at that. You think what they said is stupid. You think what they did or what they are saying is ridiculous.

Now, many times when people scoff at something, they don't say, oh, scoff, scoff, scoff. They don't say that. They do this. Tch. And the spelling is T-S-K. Or sometimes we go, and the spelling is P-F-F-T.

These are sounds that we make when we scoff at something. So how do we use scoff at in a sentence, in a dialogue? Check it out. What do you think of my new suit?

Oh, don't scoff at this. It costs $500. What? It looks like it's from the dollar store. Yeah, I used to have a friend. He was from California. Yeah. And he was very interested in fashion.

He liked to dress nice. So every time he would buy a new suit, actually, I knew he probably spent lots of money. But he always said, what do you think of my new suit? What do you think of my new jacket?

What do you think of my new shirt? What do you think of my new sweater? And it drove me crazy. So every time I would say something like, it looks like it costs $10.

Too bad it's not your size. It's really nice. Was it from last year's store? Yeah, I would always scoff at his fashion. If you watch my videos, well, unfortunately, you know that Coach Shane doesn't have much fashion taste.

But all my clothes are clean. And most of them are in good shape. So don't scoff at my fashion. I'm an English coach, all right? I'm a coach, like a sports, like an athlete's coach.

So I don't need to wear expensive Italian suits. Oh, believe me, I do like them, though. They are nice, aren't they? Yeah. So what do you scoff at? Me, I scoff at people who love Hollywood.

I scoff at promises that politicians make. I scoff at overpriced restaurants. Cooking at home is so much better. Politicians are all liars. And what was the other one?

Oh, Hollywood stars. It's a waste. They're just people like you and me. Those are things that I scoff at. What about you? Now, check out this word. Go to Google and do a search.
