easy english expression rehashed hello everybody my name is coach shane and welcome to easy english expressions come on let's master english Hello, everybody. Coach Shane here. Welcome to Easy English Expression, the podcast.

This is the rehash. Number 441, another fantastic expression. You probably know this word as like a military word or maybe something to do with fish, but you're going to learn it as a verb today. Check it out.

Let's go back in time. Today's expression, very useful. It's a verb to tank. Oh, yes. T-A-N-K. Now, usually when you think of the word tank, you might think of a gas tank in your car or an oxygen tank at a hospital or for a scuba diver or maybe in the military, the army.

They have tanks. The army has tanks. But now we're using it as a verb, to tank. And what does it mean? It means to go empty, to become zero. So the most common usage would be something like, my energy has tanked.

My enthusiasm has tanked. My happiness, my tolerance, whatever it is, has tanked. It is gone. It is zero. I'm no longer full of energy. I'm no longer enthusiastic.

I can no longer tolerate you or English. Oh, yes. If something of yours has tanked, It has gone empty. Just like the gas in your gas tank in your car.

If you use all your gas, your car is tanked. Let's check out the dialogue. Hey, how's your English studying going? My motivation has tanked. Why? Keep going.

But sometimes it's so hard. I don't think I'm progressing. It happens not just in English but in anything, in sports and anything you're studying and anything you're trying to do. When we first learn something, when we first learn English, we do really good and then we kind of don't learn anything.

And then we meet a new teacher or we study a new subject and we learn, learn, learn, learn, learn. And then we don't learn anymore. And then this always happens. It goes up and down, up and down.

And when it goes down, be careful. That's a dangerous time. That is a time when many people, their motivation tanks. Their enthusiasm tanks. Their passion tanks.

Their energy levels tank. And that's not good. You got to keep going. You have to push through. That's why I tell students, if you really want to master English, don't let your English studies be a hobby.

Make them a habit. Hobbies are something that we do and then we stop doing and then we come back to and then we stop again. Then we come back again. But habits are something that we do every day.

I'm not joking. Don't put emotion into your English. Make it a habit. Make it just a part of your life. If you do that, the chances of your motivation tanking

True. It's true. All right, let's check out that dialogue two more times. And once again, I hope that your motivation doesn't tank. Keep coming back tomorrow.
