I love today's expression. It's a very nice expression, but it means so much. Enjoy it. Let's go back in time. Today, I love this expression. It is, to do my darndest.

I'm doing my darndest. You need to do your darndest. He did his darndest. It's a great expression. Let me spell it. To do, D-O, my, or his, or her. Darndest, D-A-R-N-D.

D-E-S-T. That's the most common spelling and Microsoft Word doesn't like that spelling, but stick with it. D-A-R-N-D-E-S-T. Some other people spell it D-A-R-N-E-D-E-S-T, but no, don't do that. Darnedest.

Darnedest. So what does it mean to do my darndest? It means to do my best. to put all my effort, energy, ability into it. Now, many times we use this expression when we fail.

Or when we don't win. Maybe we wanted to get first place, but we get second place. Or third place. Or maybe eighth place. Or maybe 27th place. Or maybe way at the bottom.

But, but, but we did our best. We really tried. We put in 110%. In this situation, we use this expression, I did, or he did, or we did, or she did her darndest.

You need to do your darndest. If you want to master the English language, yeah, you can have it as just a fun thing to do. But I hope that you do spend some serious time studying. Do your darndest.

The harder you work, the better you'll be, and eventually, you'll be great. Let's check out the dialogue. How'd Timmy do yesterday? He struck out the one time he was at bat.

Oh, that's too bad. I know. He did his darndest, though. Sounds like two dads having a conversation. And one of the dads has a boy named Timmy who was playing baseball.

And Timmy had the chance to hit the baseball one time, but he missed. He failed, but he tried. Timmy tried. So he wasn't successful, but he did his darndest.

He did his best. Now, sometimes you do your darndest and you win. That's great, but not always. You do your darndest and you don't always win, but you still try your best.

You still do your best. That is the most important thing. You know, and I see this all the time with my students. I have DDM and I have perf classes, but especially in DDM where students, I give them an assignment and they need to do some dictation.

They have to listen to the English and they have to write down what the person said. And oh boy, sometimes it's really difficult and students write some really strange words and then they leave a comment. Oh, this is terrible. I tried.

I'm sorry. And for me, I'm like, oh no, don't be sorry. Yes, you did a great job. Your answers are horrible. But I can see you tried your best. You did your darndest.

Now, these are the answers. And this is the pronunciation. And then the student says... Yes, yes, I can hear it now. Now I understand. And boom, listening skill greatly improved.

So if any of my DDM students are listening to this podcast, and I know most of them do, I want to say I love your dictations, especially when they're wrong. Yeah. I love the creative answers because it shows me that you're doing your darndest. And I sincerely appreciate that.
