I love today's expression. This is, I guess, maybe for you, it might be a difficult expression to use, but you will hear it, and you're going to learn it today.

So the expression is make... No bones about it. M-A-K-E, make no, N-O, bones, B-O-N-E-S, like in your body. Make no bones about it. What does this expression mean?

Ooh, kind of weird expression. Well, let me give you a dialogue first, and let's see if you can figure it out. Are you ready? Okay. Is our new listening assignment ready?

Yes, and I make no bones about it. It's tough. But doing tough things will make you tough. Yeah, so we have two main classes, a speaking class and a listening class.

And yesterday I put up a new listening lesson. And yeah, it was pretty difficult. But if you study something difficult, it's going to make you stronger. Okay, so the dialogue was, is our new listening assignment ready?

And then I said yes, and I make no bones about it. It is tough. Okay. So what does that mean? Make no bones about it. It means to be completely honest.

To be completely honest about something. To be very clear. To not hide anything. To show everything. To tell all of the good or bad parts about it. And it's usually the bad parts.

I make no bones about it. It is tough. The assignment is fun. It's always interesting. But I make no bones about it. It is difficult. It is not easy. It's going to be difficult.

I'm not trying to hide anything. I'm not trying to soften anything. I have no hesitation in telling you that it's difficult. I don't want to hide the fact that it is tough, the assignment.

Does that make sense? So if you have something and generally people like it, but there's something difficult, there's something tough about it. then you would use this expression, I make no bones about it.

It's tough. I make no bones about it. The soup is salty. I make no bones about it. I have a bald spot on my head. I don't know what I'm talking about.

Why am I telling you that? But once again, so like I said, this is an expression that might be a little bit difficult for you to use. But again, you will hear it. If you are watching American TV, if you're listening to the news, if you're listening to podcasts, you will hear this expression.

It's a good one. I don't recommend memorizing it. This podcast is enough. And I guarantee in the future, uh, you will hear it and you will remember it.
