That's our topic today. An important topic. You know, we need money, unfortunately, in this world, so it's good to deal with it. It's good to figure it out, because money can be a source of stress for so many people.
It was for me for many, many, many, many years in my youth. So... It can make us very unhappy if we don't know how to deal with money. We don't want money to control our lives.
So that's why we need to learn about it and deal with it. There are many ways to do it. Today we're going to talk about investing, but investing in a little bit different way. Investing in yourself is our topic today, not so much buying things.

Hi, welcome. We are live on YouTube at the moment, as usual. So let's talk about this. Now, I'm going to talk about some ideas from a book. So the name of the book is The Last Safe Investment.
The Last Safe Investment is... By a guy named Michael Ellsberg. I don't know anything about him. But I like the book. The Last Safe Investment. So let's first talk about why.
Why is it important? Why do we need to know how to invest? Why do we need to deal with money? Because even if you don't like money, even if you really don't want to deal with it, you are forced to deal with it.
Unless you're a monk. okay, unless you're a monk or a sadhu, you know, living, you know, and completely separated from money. But even then, you know, monks, certainly monks in most religions, they still have to deal with money.
At least the, you know, the kind of the higher level monks, they have to manage the They have buildings, they have costs for food and things, so even they have to deal with money. A lot of different monks in temples, they still have to deal with money. It's still an issue.
They still have to deal with it. They still have to buy things and be careful with money. The only exception to this would be like a wandering sadhu or monk that just begs for their food, you know, and people just give them food and give them things and they don't deal with money at all.
And there are some people like that. And if you want to do that, great, go ahead. But most people, that's not the case, right? For almost everyone else, we have to deal with money at some level.
So we need to know how to deal with it in a way that will not control us. So many people are super stressed about money and people are controlled by money and they're controlled by money
On both sides. Some people are controlled by money because they think money is the key to happiness. They think money is the most important thing and they're controlled by greed. More money, more money, more money.
Right? That's one way to be controlled by money. But it's all another way to be controlled by money. It's kind of the opposite side where you never have enough money.
You're always stressed about money. You're in debt. You owe money to people. It seems like you never have enough. And then maybe something unexpected happens.
Your car breaks or something like that. And then, oh, now even more money stress. This is what I was like all through my 20s. It was very stressful. So I was still being controlled by money.
I wasn't free to... live the kind of life I wanted to because I was always having to worry about money. So there are people who try to get money more, more, more, like greed, and they want a lot of money. And there are also people who are controlled by money because they're stressed out about it all the time.
And we don't want that, right? There are many things much more important than money. So for example, family. You'll see different studies or statistics that you know how many couples husbands and wives fight about money or get divorced because of money problems it can be a very big stress on families and relationships right so let's deal with it today we're going to talk about how to earn more because there are two ways to deal with money simply you earn more
Or you spend less. Or ideally, you do both. That's the simple formula, right? Spend less, right? Live more simply. And make more, earn more. And when you do that, if you do both those things, eventually, with time, your extra money is going to grow.
You'll have less and less and less stress. This seems very obvious, right? But we are kind of programmed by... I don't know, television, society, I don't know where.
But we're kind of programmed to not do this. I mean, so, so, so, so, so many people make more money, right? So they get a better job. Maybe they make, they get a raise at their job.
And now they make $500 more every month. What do most people do in that situation? They spend $500 more. They don't save the extra money. So they're living.
Let's say they're making, I don't know, $1,000 a month. They're making $1,000 a month, and money's very tight. It's kind of tough. And then they get a better job.
And now they're making $1,500 a month. What do they do? Do they continue living very tight at $1,000 a month? No, they get excited. Oh, great. Finally, I have more money.
Now I can buy more stuff. And so they just start spending more. And what do they do? They spend $1,500 a month. So again, they're still not saving much or they're not saving anything.
And it doesn't matter. They're making more, but they're still controlled by money. They're still stressed. They still don't have any extra. They're not investing at all.
They're not saving at all, right? And then what happens? Oh, maybe a couple years later, they get another raise. Now they're making $2,000 a month. They may get $500 more per month.
Did they just save that? No, then they buy, they go move into a more expensive place. apartment, or they buy a house, or they buy a nicer car, and now they're spending $2,000 a month. They're always spending the same amount of money that they're getting.
It doesn't matter. If they make $10,000 a month, they spend $10,000 a month. Or even worse, because the truth is, the truth is actually worse. A lot, a lot of people spend more than they make, right?
So they use credit cards and bank loans, debt, right? to spend more money than they're making. So they're actually falling behind. And of course, when you borrow money, you have to pay interest.
And so it just starts going down, down, down, and it doesn't matter if they're making $30,000 a month. It seems like a lot of money to most of us, but they will spend $30,000 a month.
They'll spend it all, or even worse, they'll spend $31,000. They'll go buy million-dollar homes and super expensive cars And they're still stressed by money.
So just making more money is not enough. It's not enough. A lot of people think that making more money is the key to everything, and it's not. Even just financially.
Okay, of course, spiritually, in terms of other values, it's also not the most important. But even if we just look at the money side, just financial, basic financial, just making more money is not enough. So you must live more simply. You must learn that discipline.
So I've talked about that many times. But today let's talk about investments. And I'm not going to talk about stocks. I'm not going to talk about real estate.
Because the focus of this book, the point of this book is that the safest investment, the best investment is in yourself. It's to invest in skills to get better, to become a better person, to become more skillful.
That's the best investment long term. That will help you make more money. It will give you more benefits in life for your whole life. Because this is the safest investment because it will always benefit you long term when you invest in yourself.
We'll talk about exactly how, okay? But the key point is that you can buy stocks, right? There's no guarantee. They can go down. Any stock. I don't care if it seems the perfect investment.
It can always go down. The whole stock market can crash at any time. We never know really. You can buy real estate. Maybe it'll go up. Maybe you're very confident it will go up.
It might. But it can always go down or you can always have problems with it. And the same is for all other kinds of investments. But when you invest in yourself in certain skills...
These will always long-term give you a benefit. It might take some time, but it will. And this guy, Michael Ellsberg, the guy that wrote the book, he talks about super skills.
So learning skills in your life. For example, you're learning skills. to speak English and you're improving your English. That's a great skill. A lot of you are doing this because you know it will help you with jobs and your career.
Maybe not today, but long term. In the next two years, five years, ten years, you know that being a fluent English speaker, having high level of English skills will help you get better jobs. It gives you an advantage compared to other people. It might
You can get certain international jobs. You can work for some companies because of your English ability. Or you could even start your own business and you can sell internationally because you are good at English. So that's an example of a great investment in yourself, a skill, English ability.
It's an excellent, excellent, excellent skill that will help you. This is why so many people around the world are learning English. And of course, you could do other languages too. Russian would be a good language to learn now.
Chinese would be good. Hindi would be great. Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, you know. All of these could give you great benefits also financially, right?
Because these are all growing markets and languages in the world. Persian. So languages in general are excellent, excellent skills. And these are what are called super skills that, of course, you know, all skills, even if you learn how to cook, like I'm learning to cook now.
I'm trying to learn to cook to get better. That's a nice skill. But it's still a useful skill in life. It should help me be a little healthier. I enjoy it.
It's great for my family. So I like it. But for a career, for jobs, for money, will it help me? Probably not. I don't plan to become a cook professionally, okay?
So there are certain skills that will help you in basically any job, any career, okay? And that's what he calls super skills, super skills. These are skills you can use in any job at all.
These are skills that will help you get jobs. You'll be better in job interviews. These are just skills that work everywhere all the time that overall will give you the maximum, maximum benefit, maximum increase in your earning, maximum financial, maximum career, maximum job benefits. So let's talk about what they are.
And the most important are what he calls interpersonal. So it's like social skills. Communication. Number one, leadership. Leadership skills. Number two, public speaking.
Three, teaching. Four, selling. And five, networking. So these are kind of master skills. These are the skills that no matter whatever your job is, if you're a teacher, these will help you.
If you are... If you're a cook, these will help you. If you are an office worker, these skills will help you eventually make more money. If you're an entrepreneur, you have your own business, these will definitely help you.
In fact, they're necessary. Most of these are necessary. So if you've got some money, you could buy stocks, you could buy bonds, you could buy real estate, but probably... The safest way to spend your money would be to buy books and courses and training for these skills.
So leadership ability. Why is leadership ability, the skills of leadership, why are they so powerful? Why such a good investment? Because in any job you do, if you develop leadership skills, you can become a manager.
You can become a manager and you will make more money. Okay? And once you become a manager, if you're in fairly large companies, you can go higher and higher and higher in the companies, right? Management is typically, management and sales are the highest paid jobs in most large companies.
Some technical skills perhaps too. But these are things anyone can do. If you are a computer programmer, a coder, You can make good money. If you're a good computer programmer and you have leadership skills, you'll make even more money.
Why? You can become a manager. You can manage other programmers, right? You can be a good programmer. You'll make good money. But then you also have leadership skills too.
Now they can make you a manager or you can get a management job and now you can be a manager, a leader of a whole team of programmers, right? And this will increase your earning long term. And over many years, you can earn quite a lot more money because you have that leadership or management skill. Very powerful.
So leadership and management, really a top, top, top, top, top super skill. And again, a cook, same thing. Like what's the difference between a cook and a chef? I mean โ
I know there's a difference in their ability to cook, their skill in cooking. But another huge difference is that the chef, he's the top person in the kitchen. He's a leader or she's a leader, right? They have to lead all the other cooks.
And they, of course, get paid more money because of that. So yes, they have to have cooking skills. You still need to have the skills, right? If you want to be a manager of programmers, computer programmers, you need to know computer programming.
You don't need to be the best, but you need to be good, right? If you want to be a manager of cooks in a kitchen, you need to be able to cook, okay? So yes, you need certain technical skills also, of course.
But you don't have to be the super, super, super best. If you also have leadership skills, then you can lead a team, right? So very important, huge leadership.
Leadership and management, I think, are a little bit different skills, but we'll just put them together, okay? Leadership and management. So this will be a great thing to buy. And you can do this fairly cheaply.
This is why it's another great investment. You can do it cheaply by just buying a bunch of books and reading. I've read a lot of leadership books and management books.
I'm not a great manager. I've read books about it. I kind of know about the skills. I have better leadership skills, like inspiring people, but this is not really my strong point.
But it's okay. And if it's not your strong point, it doesn't matter because these other skills are also very powerful. So you don't need all of these. If you have all of these, you're going to make a lot of money.
You're going to have a great career. You're in a super position. But even if you just develop two of these skills and become very good at two of these super skills, it's going to help you so much. Plus whatever technical skills.
You do need some technical skills too. Like Liam says, learning about programming will get you lots of money. Computer programming is a great skill. Computer programming plus leadership is super powerful.
Or let's do the next one, public speaking. This is also a super skill. Now, this is one that I have. And this is one I developed. And I'm pretty good at it.
Pretty good at it. And this has helped me make a lot more money, right? I'm an English teacher. Do English teachers usually make much money? No. No, they don't.
But I'm an English teacher who has strong public speaking ability. I also have strong selling ability. Those two together, plus teaching... has given me a very, very, very strong career, and I do much, much, much better than most English teachers.
Like, the average English teacher makes very little money, but because I have these other skills too... my career has been much, much, much, much, much bigger, more successful, right? And financially, I'm doing much, much, much better because I have these super skills. They do work.
They really help. So public speaking is one you can develop. This is a great investment. Again, you can do it cheaply. You can join Toastmasters, which is an international public speaking club or group.
And I don't know, I think you pay a small amount of money for the membership, but it's not much. It's quite cheap. and you can give speeches, and it's just a whole group of people working and helping each other get better at public speaking. So Toastmasters is available in most places.
So you can join Toastmasters. Not expensive. You could spend a bit more money. You could join the Dale Carnegie public speaking course. I did that. I did that when I was poor.
Poor, poor, poor. I was broke. But I saved up my money, you know, and I joined this public speaking course because I knew it would help me. And the Dale Carnegie public speaking course, it's a very, very good course.
And I, you know, it was very stressful to pay for that course at that time in my life. I was in my 20s and I was actually working for Greenpeace at that time and making very little money.
And very stressed about money. But I knew, like, I need to develop my public speaking ability and I need to develop my sales ability. And they're connected, these two, obviously. So I took that Dale Carnegie course.
It helped me so much. It helped me so much. It's one reason I can do podcasting. I'm very comfortable doing it. It started way back in my 20s with that Dale Carnegie public speaking course.
And, of course, you could start your own YouTube channel or your own podcast. We have some students. Get on Gab. Fresh Waves. is the profile name on Gab.
She has started her own channel in English, practicing in English. It's really fantastic. So you can do it yourself by just reading books about public speaking and then just practicing using a camera or a podcast or something. Join Toastmasters, take some courses on public speaking.
You can find cheaper ones too. Dale Carnegie is expensive, but you can find other ones that are not expensive. and develop this because public speaking is very powerful. Again, let's say you're just a normal teacher.
Let's say you're a math teacher. You're not going to get paid much. But if you have a math teacher and a great public speaker, what can you do? You can go to conferences.
You can go to seminars with other teachers. They have a lot of these education seminars everywhere in the world all the time. And you can give speeches about your way of teaching math
and your ideas about teaching math. And because of this, you'll make connections and get influence with other teachers. And eventually, you could get paid to teach other teachers.
And you can get paid to, again, you'll be seen as a leader. Even if your leadership skills are so-so, because you're a good public speaker, people look at you. People look at public speakers as leaders. They do.
So this is a really good skill to develop. You can start by doing it in your own language if you feel better, if you're more confident. Because people get really nervous about it sometimes, public speaking. So doing it in English, maybe you're like, oh, that's too much.
I'm scared to do it in my own language. So you can start with your own language first. Get comfortable giving speeches and talking to people in your own language. And then, as your English gets better, do it in English too.
All right, next super skill is teaching. Teaching is a super skill. Now, as just a plain job, like working in a school, you're probably not going to make much money. But the overall ability of teaching will help you make more money.
Because, again, let's say you're a cook. I'll give you an example of this, a really good example. There's this guy named Chef Jacob. Look for him on YouTube.
So I said, I'm learning cooking now, just trying to practice it and learn it. So I'm looking for people online. And so there's this guy named Chef Jacob. So he's a chef, okay, a professional cook.
And he used to, you know, work in a restaurant. And he got paid. He probably got paid well. He's a very good chef, it seems. And he was working in a nice restaurant and he was getting paid well.
But what happened? He decided, well, hey, I'm going to, you know, I'm going to help some people learn how to cook. He started doing classes, cooking classes for the customers.
Because a lot of people like me, they want to be better cooks at home. They're not trying to become super chefs, but they just want to, oh, I can't cook. I don't know how to cook at all. How do I do it?
So he started doing these classes at his restaurant, you know, during, you know, when he was not working. They became very popular. Then what did he decide to do?
Hey, well, this is great. People really like my class and my courses. So he created a YouTube channel and a podcast. And guess what? It started growing and growing.
People like me would find his speeches and his podcasts about cooking. Like, oh, this guy's great. This is really cool. And so what did he do? He finally quit his job.
He makes more money teaching cooking. than he did working in the restaurant. And he has better hours. He controls his own schedule. I mean, everything's better for him.
He makes much more money, I think, I'm guessing, because he looks like he's making a lot of money. He's got a nice set, a lot of good equipment for his YouTube channel. Looks really nice. A whole kitchen for his classes is really, really nice.
So he seems to be making a lot more money. Plus, he has a much better schedule because, you know, Restaurant schedules can be very tough for chefs and cooks. They work super tough long hours.
Now he has a relaxed job. And why? He has the super skill of teaching. There are a lot, a lot, a lot of good cooks. There are a lot of good chefs in the world working in restaurants.
A lot of very, very, very good ones. But because he's also a very good teacher, he's a great teacher, he has that skill, he combines it with cooking plus teaching, and now his ability to earn money and have freedom is much greater because he has this super skill.
So you're getting the idea right. You have a technical skill, something you're good at. Then you add one of these super skills and it gives you a much, much, much, much better career, much better opportunities, right? And I'll give you another example.
Someone you probably know, Gordon Ramsay. Some of you might know. He's a famous British chef. Gordon Ramsay, he has a TV show. It's called Hell's Kitchen.
It's like a reality show. He yells at people. He's famous for yelling at people, right? But what's the point? He's a great chef. He's, I think, got three stars Michelin at a restaurant.
So he's like the top, top, top ability of cooking in the world. But in addition to that, he also has great public speaking. He's a great performer. He's a great speaker.
He's also a teacher. His YouTube channel, he teaches you how to make dishes. I learned how to make scrambled eggs from him. It really helped. I'm like, wow, it does taste much better.
So he's got great teaching skills. He's got great public speaking skills. And he's also a great chef. But by adding the other two, now he's like super famous and he's very, very, very, very, very rich, right?
He's got this huge empire because he's not only a good cook. He also is a great public speaker and a great teacher. So you see when you add these super skills, you must invest in these because it will help you so much in whatever you do. It doesn't matter what your career is.
Add the super skills and you will gain long term. You'll gain much more money. You'll earn much more money. Next super skill is selling. This is a big one.
Selling and leadership are probably the top two, I think. The ability to sell, the ability to sell is, it's one of those skills that is always needed.
Every company out there in the world is looking for great salesmen or saleswomen. Even in the terrible worst economy, everything's crashing. They're cutting jobs everywhere. They're cutting jobs at the company.
They don't cut their best salesmen. I'll say salesmen, but I'm talking about women or men. It doesn't matter, man or woman. You can be great at sales.
The top sellers are the superstars of the company, and they have great job security. It doesn't matter if it's a computer company. It doesn't matter what they're selling. This is a skill that will get you a job always, any economy, any situation.
If you are great at selling, you will find a job, and you will make money. Why is that? Because it's difficult. Like Liam said, it's extremely difficult.
It's extremely difficult. It's a difficult skill and it's also difficult emotionally because when you sell, there's a lot of rejection. There's a lot of failure. Even the great ones still fail and get rejected.
And that's tough for people emotionally. You got to learn how to deal with that. So that's why it's so in demand because it's hard to do. and the other reason it's in demand is this is the uh it's the most important thing for any company right is to selling makes money that's how a company makes money by selling something if they don't sell they don't make money it doesn't matter how good their product is it doesn't matter how good the service is if they can't sell it they will fail so
It's a very, very tough job. You don't need to become a salesperson professionally. If you just gain some sales skills, this will give you a great advantage.
I'll give you my own example. I did have a sales job, basically a sales job. I mentioned Greenpeace. How is Greenpeace a sales job? It was a sales job, and man, was it a tough sales job.
My job at that time was I would... They would take me in a car and drop me in a neighborhood. And I would just have to walk around and knock on people's doors and try to convince them, try to get them to donate money.
I was selling Greenpeace. Okay, it was non-profit, but it was still selling. And we tried to use all the same sales techniques. as if I was selling a product, it was no different.
And it was hard. I mean, that's hard work. You can imagine you're just interrupting people at home. They don't expect you. They're like, who are you? You're knocking on their door, right?
It's, it's, it was very hard. And of course I got rejected a lot. Was I good at it? Not really. No, I was terrible. Um, that's why I joined the public speaking course.
I realized I'm really bad at this. I'm so nervous. And, uh, I've got to improve my ability to speak and to sell and to persuade. That was the beginning for me.
So I did get better. I was never great, though. But that experience definitely helped me develop some sales skills. And now, years later, I have my own business now.
I have to sell my lessons. I have to sell my courses. And I have sales skills, and I can do that. Am I like a super salesman? No, but at least I have good enough.
I have good enough sales skills that it helps me quite a lot with my business as a teacher. So again, if you're a cook, I'll use cooking as an example.
If you're a cook, you can make decent money if you're good at it. If you're a cook with sales skills, you can make a lot more money because you have a lot of other job opportunities. You don't have to work in a restaurant.
If you're a cook, you could go work for a company that sells equipment to cooks. You could, like an oven company or a kitchen supply company, and you could go around and sell things to restaurants, for example. You're a cook, you understand it, but you also have the sales skills. You probably make more money as a salesperson than as a cook, right?
And you can always find a way to use those sales skills. Another great way to use sales skills is just doing job interviews. This is another way you can make more money if you have some sales, some persuasion skills. Because most people are nervous in job interviews.
They're not very good at job interviewing. But when you develop job interviewing, you're just selling yourself. That's all you're doing. It's a sales presentation and you're selling yourself.
So you get good at that and you can start getting higher level jobs just because you're really good in the interview because you have those sales skills. It will help you Make more money in any job. It'll help you get better jobs in any career.
It doesn't matter. All right, last skill, last super skill, then I'll go to live questions. The last super skill is networking. Some of you are familiar with this.
So this is building connections with people. This will also help you hugely. Some people are good at it. Some people are not, naturally. But you can learn and develop this skill.
I'm not so good at this one. Like I said, you don't need all of these. You just need maybe two of them. If you're just good at two of them, you can do very well.
If you're good at three of them, you're in great, great, great shape. So these are important investments. Like I'm good at public speaking. I'm good at teaching and I'm good at selling.
I've got three. You know, management, not so good. Leadership a little bit. Networking, probably my worst. I'm not so good at that at all. But it's also powerful.
Networking means you're really good at connecting with people and keeping those relationships. So people who do this, you know, these are people who can go to a party. And they learn everybody's name and they remember everybody's name and they remember some information about them. And then they get their cards and they call them or email them the next day.
Hey, it was nice meeting you at the party. Let me know if you need any help or something. And they build this whole huge network of connections. This is the very best way to get good jobs.
Because when you have these connections, when you know so many people, then what happens? You get offered jobs or you'll hear about jobs before they're advertised. Someone will send you an email.
Hey, our company has a job opening. Check it out. Talk to this person. They haven't even advertised it yet. I've gotten a few jobs like that. And it's a much easier way to get a job.
Answering an ad, like help wanted ads, is a very difficult way to get a job. Why? Because everyone else sees the same ad. Now you're competing against hundreds of people.
You can still do it, but it's not easy. But when you hear about it early, nobody else knows about it. And you have this connection inside the company.
Much easier to get a job that way. Much, much easier. So building these networking skills. Again, how do you invest in this? You know, books. Books are probably the cheapest way to invest in these skills.
You could read lots and lots and lots of books about selling. You can read books about networking, teaching skills, public speaking, and leadership. There are hundreds, thousands of books on these topics. You can even go to the library.
You don't have to spend money. So this is a good start, starting with books. Then you can get into videos, right? YouTube and other video channels where, again, you can find a lot of good free content.
Then you can get courses. When you figure out who's good, who you like, a lot of them will be selling their own course, which is more advanced, which is more deep. So spend some money. Again, we're talking about investing.
Instead of buying a stock, which might go up or might go down, invest in one of these skills. Invest in a course, right? to become a better public speaker, to learn networking and really practice it and get good at it, to learn some selling skills and practice them. These are great investments.
Spend some money and take a few courses. high-level trainers and teachers, people who can really help you practice these. Because these need to be practiced.
You can't completely learn them from books. You can learn a lot from books, but eventually you have to practice these skills. Public speaking, you have to stand up and talk to people. Selling, you actually have to try selling something to somebody.
So these take time. They're not always easy, but these are easy. absolutely going to give you a great benefit, a great return on your investment. These are the best investments.
I think better than any stock, better than any bond, better than any real estate, whatever, gold, silver, whatever you want to invest in. These are great.
Invest in these super skills and they will help you in time to earn much more money and have more financial security. And of course, in addition, also learn to live simply. Okay. That's the superpower.
All right. Let's get into our questions and comments now. Okay. Douglas Z asking me specifically, what do you think about crypto coins? What do you think about that?
I just don't know enough about the risks. I know I have a friend who's invested in them, but I really, I looked into them a bit, but it's quite complex, and for me, it seemed way too high risk, and the prices just go up and down so quickly, and I have no idea why, you know, I know there are reasons, but it's just too unpredictable to me, so I don't do it myself.
Yes, invest in yourself, as Anna says. Thank you, Anna. Yeah, Liam says, nowadays, in addition to English, other languages are important to learn because you'll make more money with languages. Languages are a good skill, exactly, that can help you in...
Especially when you combine them. If you have English plus selling, right, you've got those two super skills... Now you can sell to the whole world, right? If you only speak, let's say, German.
You only speak German and you have selling skill. Well, you can basically only sell to Germans, right? German speakers. But if you speak English also, now you can sell internationally quite easily.
And you're right. It's not just English now. Like I mentioned, a bunch of different languages, Russian and Persian and Arabic and... You know, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, these are all great.
Yeah, Anna makes a good point here. She says, some people are stuck in just one area. I used to work as a teacher. And when I was leaving my work, I asked my colleagues, why were you continuing working here?
They told me they can't do anything else at all. Yeah, this is, again, another good point. It's not just about money. These super skills can help you break out
and have many more different kinds of opportunities for working, right? Because like Anna says, let's say you're an English teacher. If you only have that skill, English teaching, you're kind of stuck teaching English in a school, mostly. Most of the jobs are in schools.
They don't pay well. A lot of them, you're not treated very well. They can be very frustrating. Um, And you're kind of stuck. And if you don't like that, then that's a bad situation.
But if you're an English teacher and you can sell and you have good public speaking, now you can start doing a lot of other things, not just teaching in a school, right? You have many more opportunities to break out and use that English teaching skill in a lot of different ways that you might find more enjoyable, more interesting.
Umberto says, Hi, I'm a big fan from Brazil. Love you, man. Thank you, Umberto. Thank you. Srila Parvapada. Thank you, Diego Ruiz. You know, huh? Good.
English Conversation says, Hi, AJ from Vietnam. Hello. Leonardo Jose says, is recommending two actual financial investing books. by Charlie Munger, who's quite famous, and then Ben Graham.
The complete investing. Yeah, nice. Okay, now see, this is very interesting. This is interesting. This is a perfect example of what we're talking about.
Danilo Silva says, I play drums, and I'd like to make more money doing that as a career. Do you have any tips? I do indeed. Develop these super skills.
This is a great example. So, drums, okay? We know that in music in general, it might be guitar, it could be violin, it doesn't matter, right? In general, do musicians, average musicians, like average I don't mean skill, I mean like just most people who are musicians, do they make a lot of money?
No. We all know that. Most musicians make very little or nothing, right? A few superstars get lucky and make huge amounts of money, but most don't, right?
The average drummer is not making a lot of money, probably, right? Just as a drummer. Because if your band doesn't become famous, it's hard to make money that way, right? So what do you do?
Well, you still love drums, and you want to do... have your career focus on drums well you need to add these super skills right so you know a lot of musicians combine teaching so they'll teach lessons but unfortunately or actually fortunately it's good this is good for you it's opportunity you know a lot of them maybe they teach drums or they teach guitar but they're not very good teachers they don't they don't really develop the skill they don't become great teachers this is a mistake so they just they really just want to be playing the guitar in their band and they kind of teach lessons but they're not very good this is what happened to me when I was a teenager I took guitar lessons and the guy he would teach me a few songs and stuff but he just wasn't a very good teacher it wasn't very organized I did not improve very much I didn't I was just confused honestly by a lot of it and uh
So that's an example where, a bad example. But there are also, there are people that you can find who really, really, really work on being a great teacher and they think about it a lot and they practice and they, so you could become not just a drum teacher, but a really good drum teacher, like have an excellent teaching ability. What does that mean?
Well, great, what is great teaching? What do you need to be a great teacher? You need to be able to make, help people be excited and motivated. That's part of being a great teacher because with something difficult like drums, the drums are very difficult, people, they get discouraged, especially beginners, right?
They get excited. I want to learn to play the drums. Yay. And then they start trying to do it and they start trying to play some song they like and it's difficult.
And then they want to quit because they're like, oh my God, I'm never going to be able to do this. Right? That's how I felt. That's why I quit playing guitar and bass.
So if you can help keep them encouraged, that helps you be a good teacher. If you can help them find songs that fit their level, where they can really enjoy playing music they like, but it's not too difficult, right? And tell them, you'll be able to play the difficult stuff later, but focus on this now. If you can develop your own curriculum, your own methods for teaching the drums, for example...
that are not the same as what everyone else is doing, that are better, more effective. I don't know what those are because I don't know anything about drumming. But this is what I did with English, okay?
At the beginning, I taught English the way everybody else does, using the same textbooks, and I got bad results. And I said, wow, this is... But I decided, you know, like, I want to be better. My students are frustrated.
I want to help them. There must be better methods. I kept searching and searching and trying different things. So you can do this as a drummer. Like, there must be better ways.
There must be, you know, there's kind of average ways of teaching drumming, but there must be really good ways, right? Just like there are great ways of teaching violin... And there are bad ways or so-so ways of teaching violin. So you could develop that skill of teaching.
Also selling. And this is where you can really make money as a drummer. There's a guy, I remember when I was learning bass, I bought a course online from a guy. He developed his whole course of learning bass and it was pretty good.
It was pretty good. I'm a terrible musician, but it was pretty good. And I think he makes pretty good money. Why? Because he has the musical ability of playing the bass, and he has a teaching ability.
He developed his own way of teaching bass. And then he also learned selling. And now he creates a course for learning how to play the bass, and he sells it. And now he's an entrepreneur, and he's making good money, much more money than being, you know, like a studio bassist or having just a band.
But the cool thing is he can still have a band and enjoy it, but there's no pressure to make a lot of money. He can just play music in his band for enjoyment.
No financial. He doesn't need money from it now because he makes a lot of money from his courses selling, you know, in his case, bass courses, bass lessons.
Because he's selling those, he's making good money from that. Then he can just play for fun, right? So this is, I think, the best. path for especially people in with creative skills that don't usually pay well art music drama um these are all great things but typically unless you're very lucky they don't pay well so but you so you've got to combine them with some of these other things you could give seminars if you were good at teaching drums if you didn't want to sell online you could just do seminars and do public speaking and talk about music i mean i don't know you
These are just general ideas, but give it a try. Good luck to you. Cool coders using the mirroring technique to practice speaking skills. Very good. Anna says, when I heard Anna Grigoreva from Russia, says, good to see you always.
When I hear your story of finally getting money, I start thinking how terribly difficult was your way towards money? Yes. I have this kind of problem now. I try to find ways out to learn new skills.
It was a long, long, long, long road for me. About 20 years. Exactly 20 years, in fact. So, indeed, indeed. I've tried so many things. I found this whole topic of money and work to be very, very, very frustrating.
Because the truth is, I didn't really want to do it. What I really wanted to do was travel and learn. I was much more focused on learning and spirituality and other things and working jobs. It just really wasn't interesting to me at all.
But I had to do it. We have to deal with it. We have to make money. I wasn't ready to become a sadhu. So, there you go. So, it took me 20 years to figure all this stuff out, and hopefully you all can get it much more quickly and not suffer 20 years like I did.
Oh, nice. Wichit Buntawan says, Good morning. I am from Bangkok. I'd like to listen to you because your pronunciation is so good. The best. Thank you.
That's very nice. Yeah, Liam says, selling something is extremely hard for me, especially over the phone. As I said before, so selling is a very difficult skill.
but it also will give you great benefits. So it's tough, but if you just make an effort and get some selling skill, you're going to get high rewards eventually.
But it is difficult for most people. There are a few natural salespeople, I think, that really love it, but for the average person, like here's, for example, Jose Leo de Silva says, I like the skill of selling. There are some people that don't like it, but I do.
If you like selling, it's awesome it's so great you know like i like it now actually i do like it in certain situations i don't think i could do it door to door walk around knock on people's doors i can't do that but like selling marketing uh uh things that i know about like english teaching seminars and doing it online and things like i love doing that it can become quite fun but uh for most people in the
so don't feel bad because that's normal it's the same with public speaking that's also quite stressful for most people and again like now I love it I really enjoy public speaking for me it's fun I'm just performing and it's kind of fun but again when I started I found it very stressful so it's totally fine ah Adi Batai says yeah I was a good former salesman you don't have to be a professional salesman your whole life but
If you can get a job as a salesman even for like a year, it may be a hard, hard year, but you will learn so much that will help you later. So I recommend doing it.
And sales is one of those kind of jobs where you often can get an entry position even with no experience. Why? Because they often will pay you with commissions. So if you don't sell, you don't make money or you don't make much.
So it's kind of a low risk for the company. They can try you because if you're no good, then they don't lose so much. And the other reason is that, as I said before, every company needs salespeople, right? It's such an important part of any company selling what they have
That if you're willing to try it and do it, you can usually find a sales job somewhere. Maybe it's on the phone. Maybe it's face-to-face. You can do it.
So it's worth trying. Even just try it. Like I said, try it for a year. And then if it's not for you, then you can quit. But you'll gain some skills. You don't need to be the best salesperson in the world.
Just get some basic selling skills. And it can help you in so many areas. Even job interviewing. And like Coder says, it's like the art of persuasion.
That's what selling is. It's just persuading. Ah, Anoja says, Lord Krishna bless you and your family. Hare Krishna. I'm also Vaishnava and I'm from India.
That's wonderful. Thank you very much. Hare Krishna to you too. Very, very nice. Let's see. Hope. Oh, English for Beginners, saying hello from Afghanistan.
I've been calling your courses for three months. Everyone tells me about my pronunciation changes. Also improving in pronunciation. Very good. Yeah, Anna says, some people underestimate the importance of investing in yourself.
They do think that to be aware of one area is enough, but I don't understand that it's enough. That's right. Learn more as long as you live. Exactly right.
See, this kind of investing, it's less obvious. I think that's why a lot of people don't do it, and it also requires work. So, you know, you invest in a stock, like I'm going to buy, you hear some, you read something, and you think I'll buy whatever, Apple stock, and it's going to go up, and I'll make money from it.
And we kind of have this idea that, oh, we can get this quick benefit from it, right? And it's in dollars, and we can measure it. So that seems that's attractive.
But if you think, okay, no, I'm going to take that money and I'm going to join a public speaking course. It's less obvious. You're like, well, how am I going to get more money from that? Right?
It might not happen immediately. It might not. It might be three years later that your public speaking skills help you in a job interview and you get more money because of that. Or you give a speech at a seminar at like a conference and
And then you meet some people because of that, and that gets you a better job or a better career. So it's less obvious, it's less direct, it's more long-term, and you need to, it requires some effort to learn these things. This is why most people don't focus on it as much, or they don't talk about investing in themselves.
People are mostly looking for something quick and easy. Human nature. Nice. Ali Kassem says, this is my first time catching you live after years of following you.
I'm a night owl. I'm studying psychology and I'm in Germany. I'm from Germany. I never found a way to articulate how you influenced me. Oh, very nice.
Your English is really good. Coder says, I believe it's important to study the mindset of good drummers. That's an interesting creative way to be different too. You could teach.
That's a good idea. Adi's saying, hey, Jay, I've learned a lot from you. Nowadays, parents want me to be their kid's English tutor. Great. See, you could get your own business going as teaching kids.
So, great. Great, great, great, great, great. Hey, Sriracha, also from Thailand. How are you doing? It's been a long time. I'm glad you're fine. It's good to see you.
Yeah, Anna Vatsuro, so different Anna, says, Hi, AJ, my husband is a very talented programmer. Now he's in the middle of changing from working for a boss to working for himself.
It's difficult to find what to do, not to be told what to do. Indeed, it's a big change to go from. employee to entrepreneur or freelancer. Exactly. Because now you need more skills, right?
So now he needs, he still needs to be a good programmer. Let's say he's just a freelancer. So he's still doing programming, but now independently, right? So he's not, he's not, right now, let's say he doesn't have a, I don't know, but I'm just, let's just say, for example, maybe he doesn't have a huge company that he's starting with a bunch of employees.
It's just him. So he still needs to program, but now he also needs marketing skills, right? And networking, maybe he already has networking skills from his job, but he can always improve those skills, right? So for freelancers, people who are doing a skill like an accountant or a programmer, but they're not working for a company, right?
They're their own boss now. Networking can be one of, that's one of the super skills that can be very important because that's how they get more jobs, more projects to work on. They have connections in companies and with entrepreneurs and with lots of people and they can find projects and jobs that way.
So networking could be very important for him. Marketing, meaning sales. Sales is going to be important. Now he's got to sell himself to everybody. He's got to market and sell himself to get those jobs because when you work at a company, the company does that for you and you just do the programming.
But if you're on your own, now you've got to do it So this can be a big challenge for people who become independent. It's not enough now just to do your job. You have to develop some of these other skills.
And if your husband starts hiring people, hiring other programmers, or even just secretaries and accountants and other people, now he'll need some management and leadership skills. So you can see how these are good things, but
more skills are required. This will create more opportunities, but it's also a challenge because now you've got to learn these new things. It can feel stressful in the beginning. It'll be a good benefit long term, though.
Ah, Fran Matias, thank you for this super chat. Says, by watching your videos, you help me progress. Thank you for your dedication. I am from Brazil, living in Austin, Texas.
Oh, nice, Fran. Wow, you're in the jiu-jitsu capital of America now. Austin, Texas. And you're from Brazil. It's like the double... I don't know if you probably don't do jiu-jitsu.
But Austin, Texas has like... Probably in America now is probably the best place for jiu-jitsu. You got more than two. You got so many great jiu-jitsu academies have moved to Austin.
Anyway, but I'm glad I've helped you with English. That's great. Great. Thank you, friend. Okay. Alina says, Hi, I'm from Hyderabad. It's in India. Yeah, here's a great example from Nutella Emma says, I live in an Arabic country, and because of my English, I took...
advantage and started tutoring students at the English school curriculums. And now I'm making much more money than lots of people in my community. See, this is a great example, combining skills.
The technical skill of English plus teaching, tutoring, and probably also doing some selling, right? Or networking, right? One of those two. And now making much more money, right?
Exactly. Probably having more fun, too. Yeah, Sriracha says, I love marketing as well. Yeah, I'm probably better at marketing than sales. But marketing is a kind of sales.
Samuels Lin says, it's nice to have your routine podcast again. Thank you. Omar Ovalle says, I'm also a programmer and I'm 59 years old. And sellings are my goal.
Yeah, good. So learning to sell. Great, great, great, great. I know I haven't uploaded some of these new shows to my audio podcast yet. I will. Liam asks, have you ever been to Egypt seeing the pyramids?
No, I haven't. I want to. The pyramids are fascinating. I've read a few books about the pyramids. It's really amazing if you start reading, getting into the details of the great pyramids.
It's not just that they're big. All the geometry and the mathematics involved in making those pyramids is pretty amazing. I'd love to see them. Naoki, do you have plans for a VIP meeting for VIP members?
I'll do that soon. Good idea. Thanks. Thanks for reminding me. I'll do it. No name on the profile. It just says, I'm from Morocco. Our English teacher suggests watching your course.
Great. Hi, dear English teacher. Thanks. Okay, we'll do a couple more and then time to go play with my kids. Adi says, Adi the Thai says, while I'm listening to your podcast, I'm collecting my vegetables from my small garden close to my home.
I'm proud I can eat from them. That's very nice. And Omar is from Venezuela. Oh, cool. Satya Diwan says, I am from Mumbai, India, but I like jujitsu. Cool.
So every video live class, Called Jiu-Jitsu. Be listening. I feel very super happy. Awesome, Satya. That's great. Yeah, me too. I love Jiu-Jitsu. Love, love, love.
I'm glad it's getting more popular in India. I was thinking about it sometime. I went to do a pilgrimage to Vrindavan. And I'll probably go into Delhi, fly into Delhi first.
And I was looking for Jiu-Jitsu places I could join, like maybe join up. jiu-jitsu class in Delhi somewhere. I like it. It's kind of fun to just drop in and meet some other guys who are doing jiu-jitsu.
I want to go to a relaxed one. Some jiu-jitsu gyms are a little aggressive for me, but some are more relaxed. So if I visit Mumbai, maybe I could come by and visit your school if they let visitors come.
Oh, cool. Carlos says, Quiero says, AJ, I just finished recording a video about your last video, about why success is important. I'll share it on Gab.
That's great. I'll share it on Gab and I'll repost it. Will I use the Zoom meeting for those who use Power English? You know, that's also a very good idea.
I could certainly do that. We could do a Power English Zoom meeting as well. I could do it for VIP members. And I could also do one for Power English members.
Maybe even one for the Business English course as well. We could just talk about business and money topics. It's a good idea. We'll start doing some more Zoom stuff.
I think that's a great idea. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. M. Gamal says, Hi, AJ. I like your ways of teaching. It's amazing. Thank you so much.
And Adi the Thai has donated 100 Thai baht. Thank you, Adi. That's really nice of you. Thank you. I think we are almost done. Russell Molek says, I'm a big fan of yours.
This is my first video with you. I love your lessons so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Okay, so Nutella is showing also how you can combine languages as a kind of super skill.
Learning languages is a super skill also. I'm combining Arabic, English, and Spanish. I mean, that's a super combo right there. Arabic, English, and Spanish.
Imagine how much of the world that gives you and how like, you know, these are all huge markets. If you just look at it for money, it's also socially, it's nice. But, you know, Arabic is obviously a super important language, you know, that Covers, you know, economically, a huge economic zone, the Arabic-speaking world.
Spanish is gigantic. Covers all of Latin America except for Brazil. And then English covers everything else almost. So that's huge. It's really good. All right.
I think that's all. Good. So, let's review. Super skills. So, our topic today, the best investment, and the main point of today's video is the best investments are super skills, right?
Not real estate, not stocks, not bonds, not gold, not silver, not crypto, none of that. Some of those might be good investments, but... Better investments are super skills, meaning giving yourself more skills, right, where you're better at doing certain things. But not just any skill, right?
A few super important skills that will help you make money long term in any job, in any career. So we talked about number one was leadership and management, right? That's the first super skill.
Any job you do, if you can also do management, If you're also good at management or leadership, you'll make more money. You get management jobs. You can be a computer programmer.
You make good money. You're a computer programmer and a manager. You make even more money. So management, leadership skills, number one, super skill. Super skill number two, public speaking.
Public speaking. To be able to stand up and give good, strong presentations. This will also help you make lots more money, lots more job opportunities. You can go to conferences locally, nationally, internationally.
You can go to all of these conferences and make great connections. This is going to help you hugely long-term. Public speaking is another super skill. Invest in it.
When we say invest, I mean buy books, buy courses, join clubs, anything you can do to get better at these skills right super skill number three teaching the ability to teach is again a super skill because people want to learn things right so if you're good at drums right you're a good drummer musician you can play the drums great
You might make a little money playing in a band. Maybe you'll get lucky and be super rich and then don't worry about it. But probably you won't. Most people don't.
So if you're a drummer, you make a little money. If you're a drummer who's a great teacher, now you can have a much better career teaching other people to play drums because a lot of other people want to play drums. Or if you're a cook, a chef, you can make money working in a restaurant, maybe very good money. But if you're also a great teacher, like I mentioned the guy, Chef Jacob, you can make a lot more money teaching other people how to cook.
Because a lot of people in the world want to be better at cooking. So teaching is a super skill. Super skill, right? Number three. And then super skill number four, selling.
Selling. This is such a powerful one. Maybe this should be number one, in my opinion. Selling, the ability to sell, to persuade, okay? That's all selling is, is persuasion, persuasion.
This will help you in job interviews. You'll get better jobs just because you're good at job interviewing. Even if you're not better than everyone else at the job, if you're better at selling yourself on resumes and job interviews, you're going to get better jobs and make more money, right? And, of course, if you start to become a freelancer or
or do your own business, now you can make a huge amount of money, potentially, because of strong selling skills. Selling is a great super skill. And the final super skill we talked about, networking. Networking.
And this is the ability, it's really being great socially, the ability to meet and connect with other people and create you know, professional connections with a lot of people. So these are, you know, you might know some people like this, that they know so many people, you know, they just have so many connections. They're always sending letters and little gifts and making phone calls to all these people they know, and they always know what's going on.
And they get job offers, they get connections, they get help from so many people because they just have so many social connections, especially people. you know, professional social connections, meaning business related, not just personal life.
So networking is the final super skill. Develop these and you indeed will long term, long term, you'll make much more money. These are the best investments, these super skills. Lots of love to you.
I will see you next time. Bye for now. Thank you. Thank you.
