How are you, Mr. Daily Boost? Come on in. I am happy to have you here today. Today, it's all about expectations. It's all about the fun stuff we need to do.
It's all about you surprising people, surprising yourself sometimes. You know, sometimes you have to do that because sometimes that's the way it is. Hang on a second. What I was just doing, ladies and gentlemen, is an imitation of all you Zoomies on YouTube talking so damn fast nobody can understand you.
Taking all the breaths out and everything else. But see, a boomer can do it naturally. We don't need tech to make it happen. I don't know why I said that.
Just having some fun. But expectation is the key today. It really, truly is. Have you ever surprised yourself... by your expectation. It kind of changed.
Or maybe somebody said to you, what are you doing that for? I didn't see that coming. We're going to talk about expectation today, how it will calm your life in a big way. Hang on for the ride, okay?
It is a daily boost from motivation2move.com. My goal is very simple. I want to give you a positive boost in some way, make you laugh a little bit, maybe give you something that says, yeah, I can do it, man. But I want you to jump from where you are today to where you want to be tomorrow.
That's it. I want you to take control. There's a good chance that that you're listening today because you feel maybe a little bit out of control in your life, or maybe you want to go do something you don't know what to do.
So again, you feel out of control. Some people want more, but the bottom line is you need to be in control of your own thing, right? So I want you to have that. I want you to grow your business and your life.
You hear me talk about business and life in one breath. And the reason I do that is because I understand that at least for today in 2026, most businesses are run by humans, at least for today.
And if you're trying to run a business, you have emotions and you have family and you have friends and you have money issues and the whole thing. And if we don't deal with a mindset, the business is not going to grow. So it's business and life. We just combine it together because that's the way it works.
Makes me kind of unique, by the way. It's kind of a specialty for me. My name is Scott Smith. Good to have you here today. Podcast is now almost 20 years old.
Can you believe that? Almost 5,600 episodes. Somebody said the other day, why do you do it? I said, I don't know. It's a passion. It's a passion. It's now a purpose that has meaning for me, and it's become my legacy, obviously, in 20 years.
But you know the meaning of passion? You ever thought about it? It's not romance. I guess it is. I mean, I went out of town for the weekend and told my wife, we're going to stay in a hotel.
You know what that means. Now it's suffering and enduring. Do you think that a man like me has been able to do 5,600 episodes of a podcast over 20 years and not suffered from time to time?
Yeah, listen to my voice right now. It's a little suffering. So I don't know what you want to do that you love to do. You can love what you do and have it still be like, man, this is kind of hard and easy at the same time, huh?
That's what we do in Face Your Passion. I want you to join, okay? If you're frustrated, if you're lost, if you're looking for a second act, listen, I put this together for you because I didn't want to charge you $2,000, $3,000, $5,000, $10,000 a month. I wanted to make it accessible so you had a place to get your questions answered so you could begin to change your mindset and hang out with people that are doing the same thing.
But the Founders Special is half off right now. It goes away this Sunday, October 18th at 12 midnight. It's gone. Don't care how many people join. I'm just going to take it away.
Redouble the prize. That's that. So if you'd like to do it, go to faceyourpassion.com. Money-back guarantee. I honor my word, too, by the way. If you get in, it's not your thing.
No questions asked. Just say, Scott, I'm a thing. I said, cool. Go find somebody that is your thing. It's awesome. All right, let's get into this thing.
Let's talk about expectations. I always try to get to the meat situation. of the podcast as soon as I possibly can, but I never am very successful at it. So I always have to run a little bit longer.
Okay. So most of what feels like disruption in your life, we talked about disruption yesterday. It's an expectation that somewhere along the way broke.
Your job, your marriage, your health, or you, something inside you. It just didn't turn out the way you expected it to be, right? Most of the disruption you have is because of that.
It happens a lot. Disruption is just a part of every single day. I don't worry about it too much. Most of it's really small. It doesn't bother us too much.
It's just a little problem we have to deal with. But there's some big stuff out there too, like being stuck. A lot of people feel stuck sometimes. Stuck to me is just, you're not growing, that's all.
But in some ways, you're actually operating with an old expectation. An expectation that doesn't match who you are today. Now, a lot of times, there's a gap we're working with here.
Around motivation to move, that gap is not moving, which is why I say it's a growth issue. It's an opportunity issue. So if you feel stuck, the truth is, there's some expectation in some place that you're just not living up to right now. So that's what I have to fix.
So there's a couple versions of expectations I've always worked on in my life. And I think if you think about these as you move through your day today, your day might get easier in every possible way. So the first expectation that we set is of yourself.
Now, this is usually the first thing that quantum change changes. We talked about quantum change yesterday. You decide how you'll show up now, not how you used to.
So if you're in a series of change right now, if you want to change tomorrow, even today, you might be listening to the show early in the morning. Most people listen between 7 and 8 a.m. with this show.
So you set the expectation for yourself and you hold yourself to the standard. I know, Scott, that's my biggest problem. I can't do what I say I was going to do. I know you're the boss of you.
You can change your mind. That's the thing about being the boss. You get to do what you want to do. It's a big issue. I'll never hold you accountable.
I'll help you hold yourself accountable. I'll never hold you accountable. You need it within you. But the bottom line is this. If you set an expectation for yourself and you keep stumbling and tripping and bumbling, that's really frustrating.
And it will hold you back and it'll shoot your self-esteem. It's chop, chop, chop, chop, chop, chop. Self-esteem goes through the floor. If you don't do the things you said you're going to do and what you expected of yourself.
Does that sound familiar? We fix that, by the way, just by taking some little steps and getting some little wins along the way. Kind of move you in the right direction and start getting these wins. Suddenly you set an expectation, hey, I'm going to get up five minutes earlier this week, and you do, and suddenly the self-esteem builds again.
That's really simple stuff, but it does take some perseverance to get there. Number two expectation is of others. So we talked with yourself first, right? Now it's of others.
What do you expect of others? Again, disruption. Boy, it really, really... reveals to be the word, what you were expecting of others, but you never said out loud.
Once you get clear and you say, hey, this is what I expect of you, a lot of the problems in your life go away when you're knowing what to expect of others.
Truly, we're selling a car right now, and a gentleman a ways back, we had a yard sale, and he saw our car out front, and he's a big fan. It's a cool car. about 11 years old now. And he said, Hey, if you ever sell that, call me and let me know.
Well, 11 months went by and we're putting the car for sale. And so I said to my wife, you got that number? She says, yeah. So I gave him a call. I say, we're selling this car.
You asked me to give you a call. I'm giving you a call. He said, wait, what are you asking? I told him. And that was that. So she said to me, she said, what do you think he's going to get back to you?
And I said, Yeah, he'll get back to me. He'll be a good guy. He'll follow up. She said, what's he going to do? I said, well, he's not going to take the deal.
And she said, well, how do you know that? I said, well, the expectation I set was that he met me at a yard sale. Do you think he's going to come and give me the biggest, best possible? He's going to give me my asking price?
No. He's going to say, you want $10,000? How about $100,000? And he'll work from there. It's like he's watched American Pickers and Pawn Stars way too much.
I set the expectation, and guess what happened? That's what happened. Now, if you come back the other way, I would have been surprised by it, but at least I understood what the expectation was going to be. A lot of y'all are setting expectations and you're getting surprised and you're getting disappointed because you kind of set the bar too high.
So it's expectation of yourself, expectation of others. But the final one is probably the most important one. This is kind of an integrity issue. Others of you, after you have any kind of real shift, people, they expect the old you to be there.
So if you're making a shift right now, people are looking at the old. We see this all the time. When I coach women, by the way, their husbands get afraid because the women are shifting and
And people have an expectation of you, but the husbands are like, what are you doing? And I used to, when I started this business, I was coaching at a gym a lot. I was doing a lot of boot camps and kickboxing work. And as the women got in more shape, the husbands got really, really nervous.
The expectation had changed. The old you had disappeared. So others have an expectation of you. You have to tell them what's different, what's happening, and then go live it.
And the easiest way around this, just had this conversation yesterday with a client. And she fortunately had already done what I advised her to do, which is she just had the conversation and set the expectation for her husband. No, I'm doing this for you. And she'll listen to the show.
She knows I'm not gonna say her name, but it happens so often. And ladies, particularly, I'm telling you girls, is it okay if I call you girls? Can I do that? I'm telling you, you're going to go to the gym.
Your husband doesn't have to work out at all, right? You go to the gym. And you're going to go on a big old, big old t-shirt, right? The t-shirt that you stole from your husband.
You're going to be all covered up and you'll be there for a month or two. And suddenly you're going to be this tight little sport thingy. You can be showing off what you got, right? And husband's going to suddenly start showing up at the gym and he's going to be sure that you're getting hit on by all the guys.
I'm telling you, that's a very simple example of expectations. Let me run back through this for just a second. Okay. Expectation number one is what do you set of yourself?
If it's low, that's fine. I don't care. Just set an easy bar. If it's high, rise to it. What do you expect of others? Be careful with this one. It'll disappoint you.
You'll spend your days just feeling like, man, the world sucks. It doesn't. Just get clear on the expectation that you have of other people. I usually don't have much, by the way.
I let them surprise me. I don't hold them to too much of a bar. I just don't because I just don't really know, right? So I find it's just kind of easy.
It's like, well, maybe it'll be good. Maybe it'll be good. We'll see. I don't worry about it too much. And what others have of you, this is probably the biggest.
I run into this myself all the time with my Face Your Passion group that I have. Some people, my higher-end clients, higher-end people that pay me more and I have more responsibility to help them change their life or their business, they sometimes wonder why I do it. It's not an expectation match. And I made the mistake here a couple of weeks ago.
I wasn't really clear about it. I said, listen, I just do it so we can step in at least at a very small level to help people who are just getting started. That's it. I'm not solving all their problems.
Solving all yours, not solving all theirs. So even I stumble on this sometimes and I had to be very clear about what I was doing. Speaking of that, if you are in that stage, a little frustrated, trying to move forward, kind of start a side hustle, things like that. I get it.
It's kind of big and broad, but essentially you're trying to get through this disruptive stage of your life. That's what I built face your passion for.
Go to face your passion.com. Get that founder special. It expires this Sunday night. Double the price at that point. And no, I will not go backwards. I hope you join us now.
Stay as long as you want. See you tomorrow.
