What's happening? How you doing? So I'm asking questions. Sometimes you say I need to be motivated or motivation doesn't work. Motivation sucks. Scott, can you help me figure this stuff out?
Listen, we all say the same thing, right? But you don't have a motivation problem. I talked about that a little bit on Tuesday. We're deeper today. We talked about you just haven't decided what you need to be doing yet.
A decision is everything. And it's getting harder to make decisions now because everybody's going to chat to EPT. And anybody learn that chat doesn't help you make decisions yet? Anyway, we'll talk about that today, give you some ideas, and make this day as good as you want it to be.
And it's really up to you. It is a daily boost from MotivationToMove.com, the positive boost you need every single day for your life and for your business. I love.
I love helping people figure stuff out. And the more I have done this, the more I'm moving away from helping people figure stuff out. I love helping people make a decision, but the more I have done this, the more I'm moving away from helping people make a decision.
Because ultimately, as I've done this tens of thousands of times and put out 6,000 podcasts, I've learned the basics are pretty darn simple. It's just whether you do it or not. So that's kind of what this week is all about.
Helping you figure that stuff out. How are you? My name is Scott Smith. Good to have you here today. 20 years. Wrapping up the end of the year. Right around the holiday season, this show is 20 years old.
20 complete seasons. We were one of the first podcasts to ever... ever get on be a podcast, I guess one of the first like 5,000 and probably one of the only ones who is still in existence today, continuous production for 20 years. We were doing this.
I was doing this podcast before Apple had podcasts. Apple sent me a note saying, Hey, you want to be in our podcast thing? I said, yeah, that's how long ago this was. I've written the whole thing the whole way.
It's been a fun ride, but at 20 years, it's time to make some changes. That's a decision that has been made. When the show gets to 20 years old, things are going to change. I don't know what that is.
Well, actually, that's a lie. I do. But I made a decision I'm not going to tell you. Nope, not going to do it. Because sometimes I'm real transparent.
I say things and you all hold me to it. I'm not going to do it. All I'm going to say is I'm going to rock the end of the year. Then there's something that's going to happen.
I would suggest that you play with me really well between now and the end of the year. You engage me. You open my emails, whatever. Just have some fun with me.
I would really suggest you do that. I'm not going to say why. Let's get into this, okay? Let's help you a little bit today. Because ultimately, this is it.
I want to get out of bed and feel like, okay, come here. Here's my really simple goal in life. You ready for this? Believe it or not, this is it. I want to get up in the morning and have a really awesome day.
What does that mean? I can do what I want to do. I can be creative. I can be serious. Whatever. Whatever I want to do today, I'm not ridiculous. I play by the rules.
I'm not this person who just kind of drifts around being narcissistically saying, I want to do what I want to do. I don't do that. But I have ideas that I want to do. I just want to have the choice to be able to do things, the freedom to do it.
That's number one. And do it all day long. And then come home and go to bed and have really good dreams and get up and do it again. It sounds really simple.
But man, isn't it hard to do it? The very freedom that you want to have takes a lot of work. I have so many people who just want to live the freedom lifestyle, just kind of drift around like cats and do what they want to do, but they don't want to do any of the other stuff to build structure in their life. And therefore they don't get to do what they want to do.
So you got to build that peaceful base and have some freedom in your life. Life is short. You should enjoy yourself. Let's get into this today. Okay. So essentially the core idea of this whole program right now is people think they've decided when really what they've done is they've only wished.
I want to grow my business. That's what I want to do. That's a wish. A decision has an edge to it. It closes doors. If you say, I want to grow my business, that's a wish, but you can turn that into something that's a decision.
I'm going to grow my business. I want to make my relationship better. That's a wish where you can just do it. I want to lose some weight. That's a wish.
Or you can just do it. So you think about the motivational thing, and I've done this for a long time, and you can see I'm a positive guy, but I'm so practical. I'm more of a practical philosopher than just about anything. I can look and say, I love motivation.
I love inspiration. I love the fact that I believe in what you want to do, and I believe in feeling good. And I like to do the same thing. I'm a dreamer all just like you.
But I also understand that dreaming don't pay the bills, and dreaming don't get stuff done. Sometimes you have to decide to make it happen. And more and more as I go through life these days, and maybe I'm just getting a little bit older, and maybe that's why I've just recognized that. And maybe if you're younger by 20 or 30 years, you may not know, Scott's wrong.
No, no. No, there's just a way to doing things. Let's talk about that today. So talk about the word decide. The word itself comes from Latin to cut off.
You've probably heard that before, huh? A real decision cuts away other options. If nothing got cut, you didn't decide. I told you, changes are coming to this show at the end of the year.
I decided. Again, I'm not going to tell you why. It doesn't really matter what I decided to do. What matters is I've decided not to do it the way I've been doing it.
It's like getting a divorce. And I say this all the time. I apologize. I haven't said it too much, but it's true. A woman gets a divorce. Ask her what she wants in her next man.
She'll say, I'll tell you what I don't want. And yes, I've only ever heard a woman say that. Now, wait a second. I've had men say that too. I won't tell you what a men say.
They're not nice. Why we avoid decisions. It's simple. It keeps your options open, doesn't it? It feels kind of safe. Once you decide, you can be wrong.
Staying vague means you never fail, does it? So think about that. You literally are cutting off your options when you make a decision. It's real. And you avoid it simply because it's real.
But you do it all the time anyway. Think about it. The course of your day, the course of your week, your month, when you made decisions, that's it. This is how it's going to be.
We've got to get this done. You go do it, don't you? Happens all the time. You pull the trigger on something. What else? Wishing looks like work. We talked about the 12 levers on Monday.
Give you my opinion. We listen to podcasts, right? All the planning, we all do this stuff. There's another podcast to fill your day. I don't listen to a ton of podcasts.
You know why? It's just another person like me spewing an opinion. That's it. I don't listen to a lot of them because I really value what I say. And I keep that in mind, by the way, when I'm talking to you.
I don't get it right all the time. I'm a guy just like you, right? But I don't listen to other people because some people actually sit down. I have one interest in you.
Listen, I don't want to teach you a ton of stuff. Don't really care about that at all. I don't want to be smarter than ChatGPT. And I could be if I wanted to be because I'm that kind of confident guy.
I don't want to do that. I want you to kind of get something from the show, feel inspired a little bit, get an idea and run with it. That's all I care about.
But you know, wishing looks like work. It feels productive and it lets you skip out on commitments. This ties straight back into the Monday show that I did.
I see so many people who wish and wish and wish and hope and pray. And having done this show for such a long time, for 20 years now, there are people right now in my world who are still saying and complaining about the same thing they did 15, 20 years ago.
Do I care? Yeah, I really actually feel sad for them. Does it impact me? Not at all. I keep moving. There is a test. If you truly decide about a way, you can name the next step and when you'll take it.
If you can't, you haven't decided yet. Once you decide, you know exactly what to do, don't you? you know what part of the frustration of not being able to make a decision is you don't know what the next step to take.
Deciding makes the rest easier. It really does. Once you have made a decision, a hundred smaller choices kind of disappear. So you don't need willpower.
Hmm. Tomorrow I'm going to dig in. Cause you know, I went to, um, Dollywood. I've been there before up in, uh, Sevierville, Tennessee. Been there before.
I have not been there after she died. Um, They didn't make a lot of changes to it. But just knowing that she's gone now, and you start to look a little bit deeper, so I'm going to dig in tomorrow a little bit.
She decided she was on her own songs years before Elvis called her and said, I want that song. When the moment came, there was nothing to decide. She already decided, I'm going to own my own songs. A little quote that Dolly gave a long time ago was, I treat my songs like my children, so in my old age, they can support me.
Decision already made, very on me. So before you look for another way to get there, make sure you actually have picked a there. Again, not a motivational problem.
It's a decision problem. Once that happens, you know you'll spring into action. In most cases, people listen to a show like this because they're looking to spring into action. I can tell you some decisions should come about from listening to me today.
And if not, listen to tomorrow's show. I think you'll get there. I'll see you on the Friday version, episode edition of The Daily Boost. Thank you.
