This is the Daily Boost Podcast with Scott Smith. How are you? Come on in here. Good to have you here today. I got stumped the other day. Somebody asked me a question, and I did not have an answer.

But then I did pretty quickly once I thought about it, but it's weird. As a guy who's been a coach and a consultant, advisor, all this stuff for so many years, I get paid to have pretty good answers. People don't give me money if I can't help them, right? And I do pretty well.

I didn't have answers. I'm going to tell you that question today, ask it to you, and I'm going to guess right now that you will not have an answer either. Now, if you do, I'm also going to guess that as I go through the show today, it is going to change. You're going to think a little bit differently as we get through this program.

Anyway, good to have you. Thanks for stopping in. My name is Scott from MotivationToMove.com is where you'll find me. Appreciate you being here. I went back to school shopping last week.

It was a tax-free holiday. We don't pay sales tax during back to school. That was simply a calling for my wife to go shopping. I said, nobody's going back to school.

She goes, there's no taxes. Let's go shopping. So she bought me some clothes, some school clothes, I guess. I should say that. And then she bought a printer and she bought some other stuff.

I said, that has nothing to do with school. And she goes, it's okay. We're not paying taxes. I'm like, that's weird. So I said, let's go to the Harley Davidson store.

There's a few things I want to take advantage of during this time of savings. And she said, they're not going to give you a tax-free holiday at the Harley store. I said, why not? I'm a student of life.

I should get a discount. They didn't. I called. I really did. I did. I just tried. They didn't do it. So the question I had the other day, why do you do what you do?

I struggled to answer that question. Now, most people find it very strange that the guy who does the work I do would not know exactly why I do what I do.

But I found it kind of normal. Now, before I carry on with this show, I want to tell you this will likely come across to some of you as a very narcissistic, self-centered show.

But the question was asked to me. I'm going to do my very best to put the question back on your lap so you recognize I'm actually talking about all of us, okay? But it will sound like some of you, like, Scott just talking about himself. Oh, there he goes.

You've been told. And if you Spotify people just want to leave a bad comment and complain because we know you Zoomies don't care about us boomers. All you want is your inheritance. That's it.

I will delete your comment. God, you delete the comment, have transparency. No. You're gone. What do you do when you're doing you, and why do you do what you do?

First question there, what do you do when you're doing you? Have you heard me ask that before? I find it kind of a funny question. It's like, what do you do when you're doing you?

It's kind of dirty when you think about it. If you think about it the way I just did. Whoa. I know. What do you do when... bills are paid, you've got all kinds of time, nothing on your mind, and you're just left to your own devices.

What do you do? Some people can't tell you what they do when they're just kind of hanging. I can tell my wife, she goes in the kitchen and cooks something.

It's obvious. She says, no, I don't. Yes, you do. Non-stop. That's what she does. I do something like this. Believe it or not, left to my own devices, it's very likely I'm going to find a conversation.

My hobbies are learning and talking to people and growing. I'm very likely to do something like this. And yes, there have been times when I have just left my own devices, no stress anywhere. I'll say, well, let me go play with my podcast and see if I can mess it up more than it already is.

I just do it. But I struggled to answer. It was kind of odd. Now, in this case, I think it was geared toward coaching. A new client, she was about, she had already passed the 42-minute mark.

If you ever work with me, I will promise you when I talk to you on a call, when we decide if we're a good fit, I will say at 42 minutes, your life will change.

And people say, what do you mean? I've just done it so many times. At 42 minutes, my process, at 42 minutes, everything changes. You get grounded, clarity emerges, boom.

And then we get on with the game, right? She was beyond the 42-minute mark, so she was relaxing a bit. And she said, Scott, why do you do what you do?

And I didn't have the answer because, frankly, I never thought about it. I don't worry about it a whole lot. I didn't get out of bed saying, I want to be a coach, I want to be a speaker, I want to be a podcaster. I do it because I need to help people and save the world.

That's my call. I have no freaking idea why I do it. God told me to do this. God told me, use your skill set, go do your thing. And if you do it right, you probably have an impact, and mostly it should be in a good way.

That's kind of it. But a long time ago, I noticed that I'm a friendly guy. I bend the rules for sure. But for the most part, you and I get along just fine.

I'm personal. You and I get along fine. We're laughing. Have a good time. I'm going to embarrass you occasionally. I'm going to say some things you wish I hadn't said.

That's okay. I don't get too nasty. Client the other day, he asked me, he said, can I cuss with you? I said, go for a girl. I can take it. It's all right.

I'm adventurous. I do some pretty adventurous stuff. I don't go so far as to try to kill myself, but I like to get out there and adventure. I like to positively impact others.

Not always, by the way. When I got on the radio early on, I was a shock jock back in the Howard Stern starting days. I used to compete against Howard Stern. I didn't really care how I impacted you.

I just wanted ratings. It didn't take me long to figure out that that wasn't me, that I wanted to have a positive impact on you. It's just what I do. I've just never been any different.

So what do you do when you're doing you? Why do you do what you do? Is it just what you do? Have you ever been any different or have you been waiting around to get the chance to be different, which means to be yourself?

I happen to live at a time when a lot of my friends are retiring. I'll never fully retire. Hell, I've been semi-retired for 25 years now. Why? Because it's just what I do.

I just always have done my thing and there's nothing to retire from. I'm just doing what I do. Love me, hate me. It's what I do. And my guess is a lot of people get mad at me sometimes because I do what I do and it makes you mad because I decided that's not going to work for me.

I'll go this way instead. You get mad at me. Why did you get mad at me? The only reason you got mad at me because I wasn't doing what you wanted me to do or what you wanted to do and thought it would be like.

Do I care? Yeah, I do. By the way, it hurts my feelings. But it's okay. I can't help it. I'm going to do what I'm going to do just like you're going to do what you're going to do.

I love working with people. I really do. At the same time, I'm the first to tell you, will they just leave me alone? And the reason I say that is because I need time to think.

See, I didn't get out of bed this morning and say I want to work and help with people. I did not. I got out of bed this morning knowing that, well, if I do what I do, and I follow my calling, I follow what gets my attention, I'm probably going to go find somebody to help. I'm going to pick up on a conversation.

I'm going to jump in. I'm going to dive into it again. And then I'm going to need some rest and go read a book and just rest. It's what I do. Never changed.

I like my own schedule. How about you? If you've downloaded my Perfect Week Planner, my goal of my Perfect Week Planner is to have nothing on my planner.

What? No, I don't want to manage my calendar at all. I don't want any appointments on it. Do I have any? Yeah, like 10 or 12 a week. It's okay. It's fine with me.

I manage it. Do I want any? No, I want nothing on my calendar. Next week, I'll have nothing on my calendar. Why? Because I'm going to go to Death Valley with my friend.

30 minutes to send an email to all my clients. Great. Just don't worry about it that week. Have fun. I don't like to be told no. Do you? That's why I hated a full-time job.

The boss told me no too often. I didn't agree with that. I was like, that's stupid. You're just a boss. What are you? It didn't matter. I moved on. I like to grow.

Hold me back and you will lose. I like choice. Do you want all this stuff? I think you like all these things too. I do. It's not just about me. So while the show sounds like it's about me, I think this is you.

You want to control your schedule. You don't want to be told no. You like to grow. You like choice. You don't like to be trapped. Neither do I. If you're trapped, will you fight your way out?

I will. I'll put up with for a while. I'm not unreasonable. I'm a responsible person in so many ways. I won't leave you hanging. I'll stick with something for years beyond what I should be doing simply because I don't want to leave you hanging.

If you've known me for a long time here, you've known I've done that. Usually by the time I'll make a change, you'll say it's about damn time. I'm responsible that way. I'm responsible in the money ways too.

A lot of people I talk to, and maybe you, spend 25 years working a career. You got everything you wanted. And eventually you get to the point, I got everything I want. Now I don't know what I want.

We do the same thing. I paid my bills. I raised my kids, sent them to college. I bought houses. I bought cars. I've taken care of all of them. I continue to do just that.

I didn't have all the choice. I didn't say yes and no. I wasn't the guy that a lot of people think I am and not pay my bills. No, I'm very responsible.

It's not a choice for me. It's who I am. It's a must. It doesn't always go my way at all, but eventually it will go my way. Why? Because even you, I can tell you this.

If it doesn't always go your way and it never does, eventually you'll make it go your way. Done. Over it. Time to change. I just do it by choice. So strange answer.

The only reason I do what I do is because it's what I do. And I have to tell you, after working with tens of thousands of people on kind of the same thing,

I live a blessed life because I figured this out early on. And I was going to take all the beating that came with it. I'm an entrepreneur. As I get out of bed in the morning, I work with people who want to be entrepreneurs.

I said, I don't care what you want to do. Entrepreneurialism is how you make your money. It's how you get the ability to do what you want to do. All the freedom you want, it comes when you're your own boss.

But what else comes from it? You got to get out in the morning and you got to make a sale. So when I say I have coaching opportunities together at coaching at motivation2move.com, some of you get pissed off that I have the goal to say, hey, hire me.

Fine. You're not my client anyway. I just understand. For the freedom I want, the freedom you want, that has to happen. A transaction has to happen. I take that responsibility.

Do you? It's easy to buck the system, right? No, it's not. Not responsibly. It's very hard to buck the system responsibly. You know why? You can't really buck the system, but you can be yourself within the system.

I told you, narcissistic, self-centered program. Some of you are going to hear it that way. There's not a damn thing I can do about that. But some of you hear me loud and clear right now.

I can tell you this. I have lived my entire life this way. And certainly for the last 20 years, I have lived a semi-retired schedule, helping others in so many different ways, some of them to do exactly what I'm doing. I've got people right now retiring because we work together.

Nothing I did fancy. I just empowered them to do their thing and said, no, take this way. Let's go. I'll help you. It's what I do. Am I right? Yes. In my mind.

Am I wrong? Often in my own mind. How about your mind? I don't know. Don't care. It doesn't matter. Yes, it kind of does because I'm a nice guy. Do you agree?

I don't care. Wrong. I do care. I'm a nice guy. How can I be human and not care what you think? Do I live my life by it? Sometimes. Do I live up to your standards?

Probably not. Hell, I hardly live up to my standards. It doesn't really matter. It's what I do. I do what I do. You do the same damn thing. You do what you do.

That's your problem. It's everybody's problem. We're humans. We're individuals. We do what we do. Does it matter? Do you care? Well, the truth is, yes, we do care.

No, we don't care. It doesn't matter. I'm outside the lines. You're outside the lines. Maybe you're inside the lines. I don't know where you are. Is it always comfortable?

No. Is it always uncomfortable? No. But it is what you do, right? So I don't know where you are right now, but there's one thing you'll find in my consistency with my show over the years.

It has never changed. It's always been the same. It's had lots of different hats that we put on this thing over time. But what you just heard today is the drive behind what I do, and there's no freaking reason for it.

I know that's not popular in the world of personal growth. I know, oh, you should have a goal and know what you're doing. I don't know. I've seen lots of people with goals.

I've seen lots of people with big careers. I've seen all the stuff. And at the end of the day, they're lost. At the end of the day, they just kind of say, oh, I just want to do what I want to do, man.

All right. So I hope you survive this show, but I also hope you can answer that question. Why do you do what you do? And if you know that, is it still something you should pay attention to?

Something to think about. All right, that's enough. I'm out of here, but I'll be back tomorrow.
