I'm going to chat a little bit about what you do for fun. Have you ever answered that question? What do you do for fun? I've asked the question probably 10,000 times.
Okay, that's an outright lie. I didn't mean to lie. I just don't think I've asked it 10,000 times. But I do think I've asked it many thousands of times.
Just not 10,000. Maybe I have. I don't know. I've asked many smart people what they do for fun, and I cannot tell you how they do not have an answer. I also can think right now there are many people I've asked, what do you do for fun?
And they will immediately tell me. Ask my son-in-law, what do you do for fun? Well, you know me. I go duck hunting and like fishing. He's a pharmacist.
I envy those guys. I really, truly do. Anybody that I can just say, hey, what do you do for fun? And they immediately know. It's like, I am way more complicated than that.
I find life fun. My wife said, why don't you have any hobbies? I said, well, my motorcycle's a hobby. I have hobbies. I have little things I play with.
But the truth is, to me, life is fun. That's why I'm not a big sports fan. Because I see life as a big sporting event. I see the whole thing. Everything about life is winning and losing, right?
I just don't care. It is me. I just accepted that. It doesn't mean I can't have fun with you and do hobbies. I do it all the time. I go in and out of things.
What do you do? Do you know yourself well enough to know that, hey, I don't necessarily need to do that thing because I have fun just kind of doing my thing, whatever it is. Do you have that ability?
I work with a lot of people. I can tell you this. Come here real close. This is coaching stuff right now. I have a lot of people who spend a lot of time trying to figure out why they can't have fun.
I say, so are you saying you don't have fun? He said, no, I have fun all the time. I just, people don't understand me. I said, chill, baby. Chill, man.
You know what's fun? Just do it. Something to think about, right? We are seven days away from me having some fun, my Death Valley experience. My friend, Croix Sather, running across the, it's called the Badwater Crossing, the Badwater Solo Ultramarathon, completely unassisted, 146 miles through Death Valley, up Mount Whitney.
Google it if you want to find out. He's there, Croy Sather, S-A-T-H-E-R. You can see he's done a lot of stories online about it. I'll be there with him producing this documentary for him. I actually have mad experience doing docs.
I've done a bunch of them. I've done thousands of television shows. Prior to getting into this, that was my career for 20 years. I owned a production company here in Orlando and did just the whole thing, top to bottom.
So I've got experience, and I opened my mouth one day and I said, Okay, I'll do this for you. The truth is it's going to be freaking fun. I cannot wait to go out in the desert and, well, I don't know what's going to happen.
We'll see what happens. Anyway, I'll tell you about that. Okay. So let me ask you a question today. I've asked this question. Actually, this happened, the story I'm going to recite today for you happened at Grand Canyon, which is not too far from Death Valley in Las Vegas, where we're going to be heading.
I have some friends. They still live at the Grand Canyon on the South Rim. You may not know this, but a lot of people who work there actually live there. It's a big community.
They have housing for the people that work there because it's a pretty far drive to get to any major city. So there's schools. There's everything there, right?
Thousands of people there. So I was talking to them. One of them was a park ranger. He had switched careers into being a park ranger, literally bought a
an RV he ended up not needing because he had housing. They packed up, they moved to the Grand Canyon, became park rangers. They were probably in their early 40s when they did that. Total, complete lifestyle change, moving to Grand Canyon, and they never came back.
They just stayed put right there. So we were visiting. Joel and I went. We were in Las Vegas, and we kind of headed up there for the day and went across the Hoover Dam and the dam story I've told so many times on the podcast.
Not the dam story, but, you know, the dam story. And so we go in there, and I'm a little fidgety. I mean, to me, I've been going and going and going. Now, if you get up to the Grand Canyon and you actually
Either camp there or in our case, we stayed at the housing of where they live. They let us stay in their guest room. And it's like really quiet. I mean, you can't run down to the McDonald's or anything.
It's not a movie theater there. It's just really quiet. And I said to him, I said, so what do you guys do for fun around here? I'll never forget it because he looked at me like I was this fast-paced city slicker.
And I guess I was. He said, I've been having fun all day. Even at work. I don't think I got it yet. I really don't. I didn't get it. But it turns out that life has taught me that fun is a sneaky little thing.
Fun likes to show up when you're not paying attention. It's in the moment. You can be wasting time. You can be working, whatever. Fun, it tends to show up.
And people forget about that sometimes. Sometimes in this day and age when everybody is on their computers and trying to figure out, well, what are we going to do?
It's like, well, you're doing something right now. Yeah, I'm chilling. Chilling's not fun. You get what I mean, right? In my career, I ask people what they do for fun many, many times.
They're very materialistically chasing something basically because society has told you to do that. They told you that's fun. Now, listen, I love materialistic stuff. I love buying stuff.
I'm really good on Amazon. I'm good at all kinds of things. I like my toys like anybody else. But I'm at a stage of life now where I've had kind of all the toys I want.
They're fun to buy. They're fun to play with. But at the end of the day, then I end up at a yard sale two years later. I think, why did I buy that? Right?
Same thing. It's like, I don't need to buy a jet ski or a wave rudder. I don't need to buy a boat. I don't need to buy an RV. I don't need to buy all that stuff.
You know why? I've had it before, and it doesn't take very long before it's like, well, now it's a pain in the butt. It was fun. Now it's not fun. So people, they have this materialistic chase going on, or they've kind of forgotten what they do naturally when they're not paying attention.
It can be far more satisfying than they think. And I asked a question yesterday. I said, you know, what do you do when you're doing you? That's a question most people can't answer.
And it's kind of hiding in plain sight. So that's your question today for you to worry about. What do you do when you're having fun? Because I'm going to suggest that there's a bunch of fun tucked into your day that you don't even recognize is there.
I'm a realistic guy. I know we've got to work. I know life is serious. I got it. If you talk to me on the phone, and you can, I've still got two openings for coaching clients.
I sort this crap out for people. I'm really good at doing it. And so you'll see that I'm very serious and very responsible at what I do, but I also have a lot of fun. But I will turn right around and say, well, if we're going to have fun, we've got to pay the debt on this one.
You got to make some money to do it. So we go out after it, right? What do you do when you're having fun? Have you really locked that down? Are you in a marriage?
Are you in a relationship? Are you in a job? Are you in something where you don't get to have fun, where you feel locked? Answer? Yes. Somewhere. You could be at that very rare stage of life where for the moment anyway, life is absolutely perfect for you.
If you're on this show, it's going to be one of two things. Well, it's one of three things. You're either just, you kind of use this for maintenance. You kind of want to keep some good thoughts in your head or you're at a season in your life when things are not good.
You're trying to find some motivation, some way to get out of it, some ideas, or maybe you're on the other side of it. You're just a super duper peak performer and you're just rocking all the time.
It's one of those three areas. And I don't know which one you are right now, but it's going to be one of those three. I know. How do I know? Because I live that life myself.
I've done this 20 years. I know who you are. I know where you are. We've done this a thousand times. Just got off a call with a client. Some of the greatest conversations I have are with him.
And we had a breakthrough moment and I told him it. And I think we're about two weeks shy of three months in. And it just takes time sometimes. When you take somebody who has been very, very impactful and they've done well in their business for a long time,
20, 20, 30 years, you know, it takes two or three months to unwind some of that stuff. And it was so cool to see that he just, he just realized something. So I don't have the quote in front of me. I thought I did, but I don't think it's here, but he just realized something.
He just realized he built a great machine that he literally had created time freedom. We're talking about his son's birthday. And he said, man, I said, I can just, I just told my staff, I said, I'm after this time, I'm done. I'm unreachable.
I'm spending the, my son's birthday. We're spending time together. And it just dawned on them that he got to do that. That he built the life, the ability to be able to do that.
I cannot tell you how many people miss all those things. Out of town for a week, miss all the baseball games, miss all the fun stuff that happens with their kids, all the cool stuff that is your life. You live long enough and you start noticing that's real.
And it really frustrates me because it's so easy to fix. It's so easy. You have so many options right now. But it starts by what he did when he recognized that he'd built the ability to do that, and he did it, and he didn't have to ask anybody.
He just said, this is what I'm doing. It's real freedom when you figure out that you're not stepping on anybody's toes, when you know what you do for fun, you know what makes you happy, and you just do it. You're not rude.
You're always responsible, but you just set your life up differently. Let me give you another secret here, okay? Summertime is coming to an end. Listen really closely.
Some of you will get this. Most of you will not. I will tell you, I do this all the time. Everybody's been goofing off, not paying attention for the summer.
They are going to come back and start to plug in slowly here in the next month. As school gets back in play, as business gets back to going, probably in September, frankly, when it all kicks in.
When it kicks back in, you have a choice. You can just kind of ramp back up and keep doing what you're doing, what you've always done, and then wonder why.
In December, it's like, oh, this life is still the same. It's not what I want. Or you can make a choice right now. Since nobody's been paying attention, since everybody's been busy, they're just going to come back and jump into their life.
They're not thinking about this. They're not even listening to shows like this. You could just decide that when they come back, they're going to be different. You're going to be different.
And you could just make different choices. You could just not be available, or you could be available. You could change anything about your life because most people are not paying attention right now. You have a limited window.
And it's running out for most of you. When school gets back in session, you know full well, moms, my life is gone for four months, right? I get it. When's the next break?
December, the New Year's holiday, Christmas holiday, when that happens. That's the next time the society will stop. They'll look another direction. And in that time, you have a chance to shift if you want to.
Now, truthfully, you could do this anytime you wanted to, right? You could. But I understand society right now is giving you a gift. So I'm going to ask you this question one more time.
What do you do for fun? Do you want to do more of it for fun? Is there anything trapping you? Anything stopping you? Is there anything you can't figure out?
Now's a really good time to at least make one choice that when everybody comes back in and everybody fires up again, that you're going to do things differently. Now, what is that going to be? I don't know. You're not even going to worry about that today.
The very act of saying, I'm going to do it differently as things ramp up, I'm going to ramp in a different direction. That will start to clarify how to start to set the goal. And before you know it, you'll be just different. I'm telling you, it just works.
Got to trust me on this one. It's easier if we work together. Coaching at motivation to move.com. That's not for everybody. I get to give you all I can here on this podcast.
So please don't get mad at me for trying to get coaching clients. Mama says, got to pay the mortgage. Okay. Ooh, I should just end on that. Mama said, got to pay the mortgage.
I see you tomorrow.
