This is the Daily Boost Podcast with Scott Smith. How are you? Happy, happy, happy, happy Friday. Come on in. Yes, I'm still raspy, still sick. That's because I recorded two podcasts in a row when I was raspy and sick, so I'm still sick.

So today, I'm very happy about it. We're going to talk about me being happy today. Talk about how happy people think. I love this topic because I love happy people.

I love a certain kind of happy person. That's who I'll talk about today. It's good to have you. Thanks for coming in. And I'll tell you, by the way, on Wednesday, I chatted about my friend, Croy Sather, who attempted to run across Death Valley.

He got 41 miles into it and just got overheated. It was pretty dangerous, actually. I mean, I don't even know what I said on Wednesday, but it was close. It was really close.

And I did not know that the reason I was in Death Valley was to be the guy that would step up and say, hey, stop it. Crazy stuff. But he showed up on a call, my Face Your Passion inner circle call. And he's been kind of building toward his dream during that.

And so they all wanted to hear what he did. How'd it go? What a changed guy. It was so cool to see. I mean, he took this big gamble. And it could have broken his spirit, but it didn't.

And I promise you, it's changed everything about him. Have you ever done that? You ever stepped out and just tried it? Even if you failed, and I'll say the word failed.

If you recognize the gifts, you see what you have just been given by taking the chance. I live and bring that world, but I'm a risk management kind of guy. So that's kind of one of the reasons I went out there. Help manage the risk for him.

Not stupid. I'm going to encourage you to go for your dreams. Encourage you to do all the fun things you want to do. I'm also going to say, well, wait a second.

We got our bases covered here. You good? Got your foundation set? I'm going to say that. I'm not going to let you go wing it. So happy to see him make this transformation.

I think you're going to see a lot coming from him here in the very near future. Now, listen to this raspy voice. Dude, I could be like in a place. I could be doing the movie guy thing, right?

Let's talk about happy people. I like happy people. They're just regular people. They just see the world a little bit differently. I see it all the time.

And it's, there's a certain kind of happy person I really, really like. And typically those are the ones with the biggest responsibilities, with the biggest weights on their shoulders.

And they're happy. And sometimes it's like, yeah, of course they're happy because, you know, sometimes they got the biggest responsibilities. They got more money.

They're happy. They got money. And listen, if you don't have money, it's hard to be really, really happy. And I know money's not everything, but if you got that kind of stress, it's tough.

You have a little money, a little change in your pocket, right? Yeah. I'm happier. Right. But a certain kind of person that really carries the weight of the world, a person that supports a lot of different people, maybe a company owner, an entrepreneur who has lots of employees, things like that.

They just look at the world differently. And I love those kind of people. Now, you've heard me say before, I'm the nicest renegade you'll ever meet. And I actually bestowed upon one of my friends, my new friends I met out when I was in Las Vegas, Colin.

I bestowed upon him the honor of being my first nicest renegade. He said, you're the nicest renegade. You're part of my club now. You're part of my tribe, right?

And he sent me a note and said, thank you for making me one of your nicest renegades. And just having fun with it. And here's what it means. You're probably like me.

I bet you're a nice person. I bet generally you play by the rules. We all break rules here or there, right? That's why we go to church on Sundays. But, you know, we're nice people, right?

And sometimes that's helped us. Mostly it has. And sometimes it's gotten in our way. The renegade side of you is a very positive side for me. It's the person who says, okay, fine.

I'm nice. I'm still going to be nice, but I'm going to, I'm going to go and I'm going to make some changes. I'm going to stop being pushed down. I'm going to be happy about it.

And I'm just going to go fix things and make it happen. I have a t-shirt that I wear. It's called the nicest renegades. And it's a motorcycle design t-shirt because I made it there first.

And the bottom line says loud pipes, nice manners. That's the nicest renegade to me. Okay. But as you're the same way, you're a nice person. You play by the rules.

And sometimes you don't, you don't be that renegade in the office quite enough as you should. You don't push quite hard enough because you think you're going to hurt somebody's feelings. I'm not saying to hurt anybody.

There are all kinds of tactics that we can use to be that disruptive person and a very positive way to get what you want. If you've listened to my podcast the past week or two, you've heard me tell stories of that. I got to tell you, when you weaponize that nicest renegade inside of you, oh my God, life changes.

It's crazy. So do happy people see the world differently? Yeah, we do. There's no rose-colored glasses. It's just, okay, that's fine. Whatever. No worries.

Let's move on. The trip I just took, very difficult trip. Every single part of this trip was challenging. I've never been on a trip like this in my life that every single thing was a challenge.

Nothing happened easily. Nothing. Every step of the way from the minute I left to the minute I got back, it just kept getting, it was always bad when I started. Late planes, all kinds of stuff.

The list is, I can't even tell you. Every single thing went bad. I was like, well, that's okay. It'll work out. Talking to people in airports and all over the place and just like, it's cool.

And they're complaining. I wasn't going to do that. I was so blessed to be there. I was so blessed to be able to take care of myself. It didn't really matter.

Of course, my wife saw my credit card statement. She said, boy, I see why you're happy. But you know what happy people, they have a few things in common.

Just like me, I realize that I'm alive. And because I'm alive, I'm going to have issues. Stuff's going to happen. Air conditioner's going to break. You're going to run out of money.

Somebody's going to look at you in a bad way. Somebody's going to give you a cold on an airplane. Okay, I'm alive. If I were dead, I wouldn't be catching the damn cold, right?

What can I do about it? It's just going to be there. The minute you say, I just wish I had no problems, you're just lying to yourself. You're always going to have problems.

The day you die, you won't have any problems. But we don't know that really, do we? Because none of us have really ever done that. I don't know anybody who's come back.

I don't. I've looked for it. Yes, I have. I don't know. Maybe you don't have any problems, but maybe you do. Happy people accept that dealing with the problems is a privilege of being alive.

If you can lock that one inside of you, and yes, you just want to get rid of them. You want to minimize them. You want to get your foundation built strong so you don't have any problems. That's the whole key here.

If you're subtractive, if you pull things away, your problems are going to go away. But if you just understand it's part of being alive, it's a privilege, and you get to deal with it. Yeah. Yeah.

You know, the other problems. What problem today do you get to deal with? By the way, people say that a lot. I mean, I get to do this. And I'm not a big fan of saying those words because I think you're lying to yourself most of the time.

It's just, okay. It's a privilege for me. Let me go take care of it. Did you catch it when I said, I don't really like it when people say, I get to do this.

I don't have to go to work. I get to go to work. I don't believe you. I just don't. Because I think I would never say that because I wouldn't work at something I don't have fun doing.

Happy people, they don't get frustrated. What they understand is just part of the process. And usually if you get frustrated, I think there are two things happening. Number one, you're either doing nothing.

And a very high psychological concept is, and a lot of people don't get this, is when you do nothing, that's actually an action, right? I'm not going to do nothing. And life falls apart.

But happy people are frustrated when either they're sitting around and they recognize they're not doing anything to correct whatever's going on. Or they realize they're shaking up their life on purpose, and there you go. How many times have you run after something you wanted to do that was exactly what you wanted to do? And now it's like, well, what was I thinking?

Why did I get into this? So if you're like me, it's like, okay, well, if I didn't want to get into it, I just wouldn't have done it. It's not going to frustrate me. I'm here.

I'm just going to change it. Either I'm sitting around on my butt and doing nothing about it, or I've gone and done too much about it, and now it's got me messed up. But I'm alive.

I can solve the problem. Let's get to it. And yes, get it solved as soon as we possibly can, because you know why? There's five more problems that are waiting to be solved.

So we got to get this one done first. Don't worry about it. Happy people accept responsibility for solving their problems. They don't run from them. They just do it.

The trip I just had, we had so many things go wrong and we had four very competent guys each doing their own particular job. It didn't matter. when the tire went flat on the SUV in the middle of Death Valley with 124-degree air temperatures and probably a 200-degree asphalt.

We were happy about it. Oh, crap. Let's figure this out. And we did it. We just accepted the responsibility. We're going to get it solved. And immediately, somebody was directing traffic because there were a lot of cars going by, and somebody else figured out.

See, the young guys, the guys under 40 years old, actually had no idea how to change a tire. So it was the 55-year-old who knew how to change a tire, and I'm older than him, so I just supervised. We just figured it out.

No delay. Didn't run from it. A good day for a happy person is dealing with everything life can throw at you. I think getting a good night's sleep and cortisol level, nice and low and doing it all over again.

To me, that's perfect life. I've said this for many, many years. I believe it is. I think if you can, if you can just get up in the morning and like, no matter what happens, you're generally speaking or saying, okay, whatever.

That was interesting. Didn't see that coming. Oh my God. Why that happened again? All that stuff. You just roll through the day, just dealing with it, dealing with it, dealing with it.

Go to bed, have really good dreams. Your brain's not buzzing. Don't have that adrenaline buzz in your head because you've been pushing too hard till 11 o'clock at night. And it's going to take a couple hours to unwind.

Been there, done that. I know what I'm talking about. Trust me. You get really good dreams, a lot of REM sleep, a lot of those dreams kicking around. REM sleep so deep that you don't even, you feel like you didn't sleep that night.

That happened to you? I dream like crazy. I was like, man, I wish I didn't dream so much so I can get some rest. Crazy stuff happens, right? It's amazing how when you have an attitude, something really magical happens.

What about all those problems, Scott? It's just kind of amazing. When you have the attitude I've just been talking about, Most of the problems just never show up anyway.

It's like worry. Most worry never shows up, which is silly to even do it then. So now you know how a happy person thinks. And I bet you're probably happy you wouldn't be listening to a show like this if you weren't and you want to be happier.

But you may be listening to a show like this because, hey, man, I need something to be this way. I just gave you a mindset. That's what I gave you right now. I don't have to give you any technique to go be happy.

I'm not going to do that. I don't have that capability. I don't have that power. I do have the ability to say, hey, look, life sucks sometimes. Let's make the best of it.

Oh, that's a terrible way to end the show. But I did it. I will see you Monday.
