Happy, happy, happy, happy, happy Friday. How you doing? Come on in. I got my happy theme music on again today. Maybe I have like 10 different theme songs.

Maybe that's what I'll do. We'll figure that out. But did you know that people are watching you? They are. Do you know what they're learning about you?

It is the Daily Boost from MotivationToMove.com. I'm so happy to have you here today. My name is Scott Smith. Thank you for stopping by. If it was your first time, welcome.

Don't hold what I say against me today. Just don't do that. Anyway, good to have you. What? Well, that's kind of what we're talking about today. We're talking about that.

I mentioned people are watching you. Now, this is kind of the second part of the show we'll get into here in a second about people watching you. And while it's okay.

But the first part of the show is about a trend that we're seeing that I'm seeing a lot these days. And it probably has to do with how busy people are. We're in kind of the attention era right now. Getting your attention is the hardest thing to do.

And if you're running a business, you might be having a problem getting new clients in the door. You can only exist on the current clients you have long enough, that warm list that you nurture along.

That only lasts so long. You have to bring new people in. And people just don't want to do it. They don't want to do it. They don't want to reach out.

But I got to tell you, outbound marketing, actually reaching out into somebody's lives and say, hey, can I help you? Meaning you sent a letter, not an email, a letter.

I got a letter the other day. I said, oh, this must be bad. It wasn't. It was very nice. Maybe a knock on the door, maybe a phone call, things like that.

I cannot tell you how powerful that is. I think I mentioned earlier in the week, a client of mine sent out a brochure. And she gets so much response and now she's having coffee and then she's just learning all about it, having a great experience. All because she just reached out.

Outbound marketing is so popular these days, but it has to be segmented and targeted. They can't just send a whole bunch of stuff to everybody. You have to think about who you're talking to. Man, if you do that, it's awesome.

So if you're in business, I just want to put that in your head right now. If you really want to blow up your business right now, start thinking outbound. I know you don't want to hear that. You just want to like sit back and let them come to you.

Like they are not doing so much anymore, aren't you? So let me transition here a second. There is something I call the shadow search. This happens online and a lot of this has been going on for many, many years.

And the concept is this, is that when somebody finds you online, they just discover you. Like maybe you discovered me. If you think you like how I think or you don't, but if you think you like how I think, likely what you're going to do is go binge me someplace. It might binge a whole bunch of podcasts.

You might Google, see how many podcasts you could find. You might go check reviews and see how much people hate me, all this kind of stuff. And I got it all out there. Trust me.

Plus, I babbled for 20 years now. I mean, there's nothing that I've hidden from you. So love me, hate me, whatever. I'm honest with you. So I can get in trouble by running my mouth.

But that's okay. It's transparent. It's what it is. You can hear what I'm thinking here. I can't lie to you because I get caught every single day. People are doing a shadow search.

And this has been going on for a very, very long time. Now, if you're running a business, and even if you do reach out to somebody and do a direct outreach, you can guarantee that before you reached out, and certainly right after you did, they shadow searched you.

They went and checked you up on you. They did all the, they probably went to chat GPT to see what it knows about you. I had a client to me the other day.

He went, a personal client. He went on Claude or something and said, tell me everything about Scott Smith and the Daily Boost. And it did. It's kind of scary, right?

There's all kinds of things you can do out there, but people are searching you. So if you're running a business or you want to get a job or do anything, trust me, you are being watched. Now, is this good or bad?

It's normal. And let me separate something here before I get into this. There's a lot of the whole influencer thing that's been going on, never really going to go away, but it's really fading a lot. Because influencers are screwed up.

You have decided that when people are watching, let me manipulate what they're watching. And they're figuring it out. That's why you're not getting business anymore. That's why people aren't calling you anymore.

I'm a hot mess. People figure out they like me and they like the way my brain thinks and that I can really help them. They don't care if I'm a hot mess. They're like, Scott's in the moment.

He's helping. He's messy. He's sloppy. Sometimes he doesn't get it quite right. But you know what? He usually does. And they call me up. I'm not hiding that damn thing.

So let me segue into the second part of this program. We know that outreach is the way to go. If you want to get a job, you got to reach out. You got to go open that door.

You got to go network. You got to go say hello, take somebody out to dinner, things like that. If you do that, you'll get a better job. You'll meet more people.

If you're in a business, you got to reach out to your customers and say, hey, we're having a special this weekend. They love it when you do that, but they're still sneaking around behind the scenes.

Many, many years ago, I'm telling old stories this week for some reason, but Larry was a friend of mine. I was, I was in my twenties. I was just barely, barely getting going.

He owned a business. He made a lot of money, exceptional living. I went to his house. I was like, man, how do you get a house like this? Like 5,000 square feet, right?

It was big. It's huge. Had the cars and everything. And he took me under his wing. I've had a lot of really great mentors in my life who've took, taken me under their wing.

I feel so grateful to them. And I was a difficult one to be mentored because I was a lot like them, right? Kind of that nice renegade that I talk about all the time. Nice guy, but just when you least expect that I'm going to do something different.

Great, great mentor or so. Relationship lasted many, many years. But think about being young. When you're a bright-eyed dreamer like I was, with a lot of talent but not much patience, right?

It's easy to see what other people have and to kind of set an arbitrary date on a calendar and expect that everything is going to go your way. As I say this right now, I'm thinking about all my Zoomies out there who are just thinking about it. I should get this. I should get that.

I should make this kind of money. I should do this. Listen, I was 25, 26, 30 years old at one time. I thought the same damn way. Didn't start to get it until I was in my 40s.

That's how it is. But things have changed. No, they haven't. Not a damn thing has changed. But one day I pinned Larry down at the office. I said, Larry, and I began to make my best case for a raise.

Because he had gobs of money. He had tons of money, right? And I deserve my share, right? I had showed up. I had done my thing. I knew I was supposed to get more money, and he should give it to me.

I was 26. I deserve it, right? It's time for me to have the big house, too, and the fancy car just like him. And Larry said something that really changed everything for me.

And it's played out exactly the way I thought it was going to be. He was probably in his time, probably in his 40s, probably 20 years older than I was.

He said, Scott, sometimes you have to keep showing up long enough for the right people to notice. Keep doing a good job and they'll step up. Now, of course, Larry is already stepping up, being very generous with his time and his money with me as well.

I'm not sure I knew that. Probably I didn't. I wouldn't say I liked his answer either because I'm pretty sure I stomped out of the office and probably gossiped about it all in the office kitchen and everything. But over the years, I've learned something.

I've noticed that there is a hidden layer of successful people all around me, a hidden layer of successful people. They are keeping an eye out for somebody like me.

Larry's right. And they step up when it's time to step up. No matter what you do, it doesn't matter. That's why I said you can't fake it like an influencer.

If you fake it like an influencer, they're going to figure that out. Because if you're hanging around me, if you contact me right away and I know nothing about you, I'm going to pay attention for a while. And eventually I'm going to unearth the truth. And when I can kind of come to the conclusion, okay, I figure you out.

I know who you are. I can trust you. We can work together. Then I'm going to reach out. We're going to do something. If you're anything less than that, we're probably not ever going to work together because I'm just going to give it the time to do that.

Everybody's doing that right now. A hidden layer of successful people all around you, they're paying attention to you, and you don't have any control over how to manipulate that. All you can do is what you do.

And if you do it well and do it with your heart in the right place, it's going to work for you. Many, many years ago, I used to attend a cruise every year, and there were about 400 people. It was actually a marketing cruise. It was called the Marketer's Cruise.

Probably people listen to me right now. The course is still going. I went for eight years. I went there because part of my business was marketing, right?

So I went there to be hanging around these great marketers and didn't really want to do any kind of deals with them. Just wanted to learn. Plus I got to write off the trip because it was a business trip, business expense.

But I remember the first year and I came out of there and it was okay. I had a great time. I was buzzing pretty good. Came back the second year. It was a little bit better.

I was met on the cruise by a couple of people who now wanted to get to know me a little bit, but I never forget the third year and a girl, a lady named Donna.

I'd been on, I'd made an introduction about myself in front of a group of people and she comes up after her. She goes, Scott, it's your third year. I think it's finally time that we talk about doing something.

She had just been waiting. I hadn't talked to her. She's been waiting, paying attention, getting the vibe, talking to other people about what I was doing, getting to know me. And eventually we started to do some business.

That very cruise, that third one, got an introduction to somebody else. I got back home from the cruise, bought a plane ticket that day, flew to Atlanta and did a speaking gig. And that speaking gig put me in business for everything else I do.

The whole network set up right away, just like that. It was just hanging out long enough, doing what I needed to do for a length of time. So how do I wrap this up?

If you want anything right now, and when I say anything, I mean anything. I mean, if you're building a business and you want to get more customers, if you want a better job, if you want a better relationship, you want to meet a new man, woman, whatever you want to meet, okay? If you want to do that, it's best that you reach out. I had a client just the other day.

I said, she said, you got to help me find a man. I said, what are you doing about it? She said, nothing. I said, well, take your laptop and go to a coffee shop middle of the afternoon and just sit there.

And she did. And guess what? She met a man. She reached out. I don't know what came of that, but whatever you want, you got to first put outbound in play.

It's not real popular right now. People seem to think they can sit back and let AI do it for them. It's not going to work out for you well if you do that. And secondly, whatever you're doing every single day, just like me, I'm a great example of this.

This is not perfect in any way. What I do for a living, I'm sharing stream of consciousness thought with you. I'm digging as deep as I can to make it as interesting as I can for you and give you something to learn today. But at the end of the day, it's Scott doing what Scott does.

And I've done it 20 years now and made a spectacular living doing it and helped tens of thousands of people all over the world doing this all because some of them just kind of paid attention for a while and And I just kept doing my thing. And eventually that secret layer of successful people that are hanging out around me reached out and said, hey, I think it's time we talk.

It's a combination of two. Just do what you do so people can see what you do. It is going to be what it's going to be, right? Trust me, over a period of 20 years, it's going to be what it's going to be.

And then reach out to and give them a chance to get to know you. And then put the two together and watch what happens. Everything will change for you.

Well, all right, hopefully I'll feel perfect on Monday to get this COVID thing out of the way, but I appreciate you putting up with me. And come on back Monday and put up with me some more.
