How are you? Happy Monday. Come on in here. I am so happy you're here. Hope you're having a great weekend. Well, it's Monday. I'm sorry. That's weird.

I said, having a great weekend. It's Monday, but I recorded the show on a Friday. I'm living in a time warp right now. Okay, today. What? So today, there is something I came up with about 17, 18 years ago to help clients.

As a guy who coaches a lot of people at this point, thousands and thousands of them, one of the things we have to do is kind of hold space, a place to give you a chance to make the change you want to make, right?

But what I found was people were very confused. I would give them what I call a transitional identity. I'll explain what that is and why it was important, give you a couple of examples. But I think when I'm done today, you're going to want to give yourself one.

And that will be your homework assignment today, okay? It is a daily boost from motivation2move.com, the positive boost you need every single day. It's me, Scott Smith. Good to have you.

Thanks for stopping by. What a big week. We opened the Face Your Fashion School community this week. And at this point, got about 50 people in there. We're giving a founder's discount, 50% off for the first 100 people, the people that just kind of come in and jump in.

And at about 50, it's been so much fun. I tell you what, these are people who have realized that, you know, they want a second chance in life. They want to reinvent themselves a little bit. Things are pretty good.

Maybe they're not, but, you know, they want to be around positive people who will sit down and say, let's go and let's support each people along the way. And we have done that, man. The conversation has been great.

It's been busy. My voice will harass me because of that. This coming week, we're going into Operation Reinvention, and we're going to dig down deep and get these folks on a path, and they're so excited to start. I want you there, too.

If you want to get part of this group and see if it's for you, if not, I'll give your money back. It's a money-back guarantee. Don't worry about it. Just go to school.com slash faceyourpassion.

You can search faceyourpassion there as well. That's school, S-K-O-O-L.com slash faceyourpassion. Come on in. Grab one of those lifetime podcasts. $49 a month deals.

And then I'll see you inside. And I'm going to talk to you a lot. I'm texting and talking to a lot of people all day long. It's just a lot of fun. All right.

So today let's jump into, I think this will help you. I really do. In fact, I've heard people say that this is one of the most important parts of my Face Your Passion program and some of the frameworks I put together. Strangely, the first time I did Face Your Passion, which was in 2011, I had this leading very much early in the program.

And the second time I did it, it ended up like the last thing. And I'm thinking, what did I do? It's just so powerful. So I'm going to move it around and redo some things here, but I'm going to give it to you today.

So I mentioned a little bit earlier that when people come in and they want to make a change in their life, there's a lot going on here, right? Because what happens is there's something percolating. You're trying to figure something out. You feel a little bit stuck.

It just happens to all of us. And what it is is that you are kind of establishing in your life and maybe things aren't quite the way you want them to be. But your values and your experiences that have come from your beliefs and your behaviors over time are really deeply rooted inside of you.

And lots of times we get to a place where we do feel like change is necessary or maybe the economy we have right now, depending on how you look at it. I mean, the economy is actually very, very good.

And then I saw what it costs to fill up my motorcycle the other day. So depending where you are, it can be kind of confusing. This sets up what would be called a quantum change. Now, the single defining factor of a quantum change is disruption.

Pretty much it's when everything behind you that you've been doing that drives you crazy, you say, I'm done. That's it. Over. You don't erase it. You don't forget it.

But now instead of just worrying about every little detail, it just becomes that thing you did for the last 10 years. You may be feeling that now. A lot of people in Face Your Passion are like that. Been doing this.

Clipping along for a while now. I'm done. Let's do something different. Great. Let's go reinvent ourselves. We can do that. And that's what we're going to do a little bit today.

So a transitional identity. When I started doing this, I recognized something. I was working with a lot of women. I started Motivation to Move. I was teaching kickboxing classes.

So I started this inside a gym. And so I had a lot of fitness stuff for the first few years. My wife still does that constantly. She's in the group now, by the way, too.

She's the physical person. I'm the mindset guy. And what happened was I'd get a lot of women who would come to me, and they would have a goal. Usually it's going to be maybe this time of year.

They've got a Christmas party they know they're going to go to, and they want to wear a really nice, sexy dress. That comes up and now they got to lose some weight.

Now, having done this for a long time, there's only so much weight you can lose in so much time and it's difficult. And some people come to you 50 or 60 pounds overweight and they want to, man, it's like September. I need to do it by December. What am I going to do?

Well, I know they're not going to lose that by September. I just get that. But I also understand something else. That if we can at least get them on that road, who they are on the inside will begin to change.

But sometimes it's hard to get them on the road. So everybody knows if you've ever worked out and gone to the gym, maybe that's not your identity. But if you do that, you know that it kind of hurts, kind of sucks. It's kind of sweaty.

I don't like it. Plus, I go there. Then I got to eat right, too, and all that kind of stuff. Blah, blah, blah. I don't like it. But then you go there a little bit, right?

Maybe you join a class. Maybe you start doing the treadmill stuff. Maybe you start lifting weights. It's awesome. And you start feeling a little better, right?

Your clothes start to get a little bit smaller. I mean, you wear tighter stuff because you start to kind of like it. So just a few weeks before when you went there, you were like a person, I don't go to the gym. I need to go to the gym.

And so I am. I really should go to the gym and work out and do some exercise. And you finally got yourself over there. And now you're kind of becoming part of the tribe.

I'm kind of a gym rat, baby gym rat. And some people say that. My wife will say that. And then she'll say, I'm not really a gym rat. Yes, she is. What happens is when you step in, even though you haven't reached the goal of getting to wear that little black dress, and even though it may take twice as long to get there, you start to kind of get an identity that makes sense to you.

So what I do is I simply say, give it to you. So like I'm a little black dress in progress. That's a great transitional identity. Hey, why are you going to the gym?

I'm a little black dress in progress. I'm going to wear that thing. Maybe it's a bikini. Maybe it's something else. I don't know what it is. A transitional identity is just a way for you not to have to be the person you are today and not to have to pretend to be the person that you're going to be tomorrow.

I know. Fake it till you make it. If you believe, you can make it happen. Guys, can I just talk to you clearly? We're all adults here, right? I don't care how much you believe what you're going to be.

You're still second-guessing. You're still tossing eternity. You still don't quite believe it, do you? It doesn't happen until it happens. So why don't we just do something that actually works?

Why don't we just take the thing that actually works, ground on reality, and say that's who we are? I'm a little chubby, but I go to the gym every single day, and I'm looking great every single Friday.

I don't know. I am this, plus I will be, plus I am now a new transitional identity. How about this? I'm someone who struggles with weight but possesses determination, resilience, and the ability to make positive change.

That's your current identity. Why did I say that? I've seen it a lot. We're surrounded by really capable people. You're smart. You've been around for a while.

You do know how to do this. You know how to diet. You know how to exercise. You have determination. You have resilience. You have the ability to make a positive change.

I know you do. And you're like, well, why don't I do it, right? See, I'm telling you, it's just the truth. I'm the same way. You're the boss of you. Sometimes you don't do what you say you're supposed to do.

So what do we do? Well, if our desired identity is, I want to become healthy and fit. I want to feel great. I want to feel energized. I want to feel confident in my body.

That's really cool because it's driving you that way. So what would be the transitional identity? It can be whatever you want it to be. Have you ever done a positioning statement like for a business?

Or maybe try to come up with a slogan, maybe for a newsletter or something like that. And you just... Hem and haul for like days and days and days, you can't quite get it right.

Well, the thing is, that's where it all starts. So if I said, this is who I want to be, I'm on a journey to becoming healthy and fit and feeling great every step of the way.

If you get out of bed this morning and people say, so who are you? What's going on, man? Well, I'm just on a journey. I want to be healthy and fit. I want to feel great every single day, no matter what I do.

Do you think that might inspire you, inspire them? Do you think that might be your automatic motivation? It's like when I say face your passion, is in and of itself a goal?

It is. If I can get you out of bed every single day and say, I'm facing my passion, I'm on a journey to become healthy and fit and feel great every single step of the way. Do you think you can live in that identity for a little bit?

Let me tell you what happens. I don't care what identity you put on yourself, make it honest and truthful. Fool everybody around you if you want to, but look in the mirror and say, at least for me, I know, you know, I'm still working on it.

I'm still working on it, but I'll get there because it is going to be a little bit longer than you think. But what's cool about it is, and I love it when it comes to it, it's like saving money. It seems like you never get enough fast enough when you're saving money. And then a week goes by and you don't have enough yet.

You still would like to have more, but look what I got. When you lose weight, the gym sucks every single day. End of the week, though, you're like, you know, maybe I didn't lose weight this week. But God, look at the biceps, man.

There's little things you can hang on to. And simply because it's a very long journey to get what we want, we have to have something to hang on to. So I hope you can do something like that. I hope you can lean into a transitional identity that you just kind of walk into today.

And maybe next month you change that just to get you to the next level, right? It really works. If you need some help, join Face Your Passion. Go to school.com slash faceyourpassion.
