How are you? Happy Wednesday. Come on in here. Man, about this time, I think everybody's on vacation. We live near a Bucky's in Daytona Beach. It's up kind of in the areas where I do some shopping.
It's crazy. You guys are getting Bucky's like crazy. They can't have any beef jerky left at all, given that it's a holiday weekend. I need a boost. I need a daily boost.
Great American road trip. It's a lot of fun, isn't it? Except on a holiday weekend. But it's a lot of fun. And it'll be good to have you. My name is Scott Smith.
Thanks for stopping by. Talking about freedom this week and freedom in the sense that it's your personal freedom. A lot of people talk about this. A lot of people try to say how to do it.
And ultimately, I guess it's how you judge it. But I've just done tens of thousands of hours of coaching hours. I work with a lot of people who even judge me sometimes. They go, well, you don't have the freedom you want.
I said, yeah, it's really difficult sometimes because you get doing what you're doing and then you get kind of good at it and you get doing it for other people and suddenly you don't have the freedom you wanted to have. It's a very difficult thing to do. You've got to manage it.
And it's really hard. So you stay out in front of that, proactively making sure you're taking the steps to get the freedom you want. But the minute you do, the minute you lighten up a little bit and go, oh, I'm just going to coast for a couple of weeks here. Somebody might take it from you.
It just happens. Anyway, we'll talk about that a little bit. Remember, you get my stuff at motivationtomove.com. A lot of the stuff I'm talking about this week, you'll probably find an archive someplace.
Just go to Motivation to Move, all spelled out, and search, and something will show up. I'm sure I've done, I think we have, is it almost 1,300 podcasts that are on the website?
No, I don't have all 5,000. No, you don't get to hear 20 years of my life. I mean, the last seven or eight years, man, that's enough. I didn't want to hear that.
So today... a trait that I've noticed in people that have a freedom life, people that have chosen to have freedom of time, freedom of money, freedom of choice, freedom of opportunity, all those things that maybe you want. Maybe you haven't thought about it. I don't know.
Maybe that's not what you're here for. But most people I end up working with or I spend my time with, frankly, the people I hang out with, the people I most hang out with,
They really live this first. When I take a motorcycle trip, I got a bunch of buddies here. They're not in my business. They do other stuff. But, boy, they have the freedom lifestyle, and they call in the strangest times and go, hey, we're going to do this, we're going to do that.
I have a friend of mine who just finished a 3,600-mile six-day trip all by himself. His goal was to ride his motorcycle at every state in the country. He has now done it except Hawaii, and to set a couple of records along the way, 1,000 miles in 24 hours, 1,536 hours, that kind of thing.
Freedom lifestyle. Just to saying, you know, I had this goal. I've set my life up so I can disappear for a week and a half. God bless his wife. Do you get to do that?
It's hard. It's really hard. You have to be very proactive to make this happen, and you are going to You're going to trip over some people and people are going to trip over you when you do this.
Because trust me, he had to negotiate when he went and made that 3,600 mile trip with his wife. She was wonderful. I know her well. She's going to be fine with this.
She knows what she married. But he's going to pay the price when he gets back. There's something coming for her. It's coming. It's probably going to be a new car.
I understand because I've seen too many new cars come her way after he goes and does something like that, all right? There is a cost to your freedom, isn't it? There's always a cost. And does it always work out?
No. If you put it in relation to this country, the way this country started, and even to this day, There are people that are fighting for freedom, however they see it, whatever it is, a free country. You can see however you want to.
Some will succeed, some will not. Some will live, some will die. That's it. There are prices to pay, so you can't always guarantee it, for sure. That's why the more you understand the basis of it, the more you understand how you build it on a stable foundation, the more you have control.
My kids, for the longest time, when they were growing up, I tell them, I say, you've got to keep your finger in the hole in the dam. And my son said, well, why don't you just patch the hole? I said, well, you can, but it's going to break anyway because that's what they do. It's just always a hole in the dam.
There's always a leak somewhere, like a swimming pool. It's like the reflecting pool. There's a leak somewhere, right? It just happens. And sometimes it's sketchy, but I won't go there.
There's always a leak someplace. I said, so just keep your finger there just in case. You don't have to keep your finger on it. If you take your finger out and it's not leaking, that's fine.
But keep it close by because something's going to leak. Something's going to break. Something's going to fall apart. Just when you least expect it. When everything's going exactly the way you want it to go, you think you have the freedom life you want to have?
You can listen to a podcast like this. I'm going to give you some ideas. She said, damn it. I was in such a good spot until Scott started talking to me.
Tell me I haven't done this before. Freedom is interesting. But let me tell you what rookies do at freedom. Rookies do not do the peaceful base. Rookies think they can pile more on it and just go after it.
That's what they think. Rookies wing it. Rookies have no structure. Peaceful base is structure. When you have structure, creativity and freedom comes from that.
It doesn't come the other way around. You look at anybody who's out there just wanting the freedom lifestyle, and what you'll find is they don't have what they want. If they don't have the good foundation, they don't have it. What happens is they seeming they're living free, but they never have any money to go anywhere.
They've got a lot of friends who are enabling them. It's not good. But then you see other people who have taken time to build the foundation to get that peaceful base, and then they just do what they want to do, and everything's good.
It's so important. So we're going to reveal the pattern. We talked about that on Monday. Then we're going to name who you are so you understand who you are.
Because if you're out there, listen, you can't live a free life if you don't understand who you are doing it. Because if you don't understand who you are, you're like everybody else and they're not living your lifestyle, are they?
You got to be able to say it. So we name you yesterday. Today we do what successful people do. See, you may be doing this. You may have heard this from a lot of people on the personal growth arena like I live in.
You got to clear the clutter. You got to get rid of the stuff. And that's true. The stuff may be in your garage and maybe in your head. I don't know where it is, but you definitely got to get rid of stuff.
You're doing things you don't need to be doing right now. But that's really not the thing that really makes you successful. Yes, get rid of the clutter. No doubt about that.
But there's something more important. You see, successful people, people that have the time, people that have the money, people that have the foundation, people that have the stuff, have it under control. They got their mind. They got their friends.
They got everything under control, right? They like their stuff. I have a very cluttered life. I have lots of moving parts. That's what happens when you build a decent life.
It's sophisticated and sophisticated and complicated, and there's lots of moving parts. I'd love to get rid of them. But it's like a business. When you run a business, people say, I need to cut my cost.
Cut, cut, cut, cut. I said, no, you need to do sales. Or somebody will say, Scott, I cut my cost all the way. I did. I cleared it all out. I have no more cost.
I can't cut anymore. What do I do now? I said, well, you better make a sales call. This is the truth, right? You can only cut so far. The budget only goes so far.
Eventually, you still got to eat, so you got to pay for it. So you can't clear the clutter and get what you want. Clear the clutter is fine. I have a very well-organized garage.
I have a motorcycle that is just, you can tell Scott has not, there was never any clutter on that motorcycle. I like a clean machine. And yeah, I'm one of those guys with a bike.
but I do what successful people do. I don't worry about the clutter. I figure I got the clutter. I earned the clutter. I paid for the clutter, but my time, my treasure, I clear the deck.
That's what I do. Successful people who do really well and have the freedom they want, they simply say, I'm never going to get rid of all the stuff I have. And in fact, I don't even want to, not even going to try. I got rid of what I don't want.
I'm good. Everything I have, I like, I like my clutter. I like my stuff. I spend a lot of time learning this stuff. I spend a lot of time buying all this stuff.
I spend a lot of time getting all these relationships together. I spend a lot of time building these businesses. I spend a lot of time doing all this stuff. I don't want to give up any of that stuff.
I want to have it all. People say you can't have it all. Hell, you can't. Can't focus on it all at the same time. So when people that want to have it all and have built it all and want the freedom of life, understand they can't ever get down to nothing.
They clear the clutter out. In other words, just push it aside. Let me make some space. Go do the next thing I want to do. That's it. Just go do it. They make the space, clear the clutter and go do it.
Now, if you have a peaceful base and a foundation, you could do that. Because when you clear things apart, you still pay the bills. You still have relationships. You still have the stuff you built in the past and you got space to go work on your thing.
If you just say clear the deck and you don't have a clear foundation, a solid foundation, it's going to collapse on you. It always does. But it is something we have to do when we start making this peaceful base and becoming the person that we want to be. We just want to clear the deck.
I was shopping for a Tesla yesterday and kind of fell in love with it. I've never driven a self-driving car. Wait a second. I think to this day, I still haven't driven a self-driving car.
You don't really think about it. I told my wife, she goes, well, you're going to have to get rid of your other cars and your motorcycle. I said, no, I want this too. She says, why?
You don't really need it. I said, who says I don't need that? Oh.
