How are you? Come on in here. Good to have you here today. We are talking strategy and focus and talking business today as it relates to humans. Because for the most part, at least for a bit longer, most humans are the ones actually running businesses.
I'm not sure how long that's going to last. But for today, it's a human thing. But there are certain things about business you need to really think about in a certain way.
Because the best businesses are boring. And we're going to talk about why that is good. It is a daily boost from MotivationToMove.com. Nearly 20 years of doing this every single day.
A positive boost you need to take control of your business and your life. So you can grow both. And isn't that the goal? How are you? My name is Scott Smith.
Nice to have you here today. You know, if you ever talk to me directly, I think one thing you'll find is that if you come to me with a business problem, I'll say, well, let's talk business.
And as soon as we come up with a solution, I'll say, well, how's it going to affect your personal life? And if you come up with a personal problem, I'm going to say, well, listen, how's your business going? Because it always goes together. Career, business doesn't really matter.
It always goes together. So we kind of get a starting point, but we never forget the balance across the board on that one. So that's what today is kind of all about. Some strategy and some focus.
Some points to run across. And the first one I want to drop at you right now. It's in front of me because I wrote these down today. I shared them in my group.
Business should be boring. What? Yep. If you reinvent every single day just to feel excited, it's not going to work. If you're one of those people who are, as Tony Robbins would say, you're a kind of variety person versus a certainty person.
In other words, you like to wing it a little bit. Have you noticed that sometimes reinventing every single day and winging it every single day doesn't give you the result you want? In fact, it probably gives you the chaos you don't want.
A lot of people around here try to build a peaceful base. All that means is, you know, we kind of don't reinvent every single day. We find things we like and we just do. Business should be that way.
If your business is exciting and boring at the same time, I think that's the best, by the way. So what do I mean by that? What do I mean? How can I say if your business is exciting and boring at the same time, that's the best combination?
Well, it means, my next point, if you do what you love, do what's in your lane, do what's easy for you, even though it's kind of hard to do, you don't mind the boring.
You just show up and do it. It's always better. I don't care how hard your job is. It's always better to show up and actually know how to do it and have it not be that difficult to do because it's just kind of what you do.
So the more you can align that with your passion, your purpose, your drive, whatever it is, whatever interests you, the easier your life is going to be. Most people that I know that are unhappy are simply doing something that doesn't align with them. That's all.
Business, career, whatever. Next point. All that matters if you own a business is to your customers is the outcome they expect. That's it. All that matters is what they want at the end of the day.
What doesn't matter is what you want them to have. I spend a lot of time talking to a lot of coaches, and they always say, well, Scott, they need this, and I think I should teach them this, and I'm really going to make sure they learn this. Doesn't matter, they're buckaroo. What matters is what they want, period.
So if you're running a business and you're trying to outthink your customer and trying to put in their brain what they want, you're wrong. You got to figure out what they really want. Funny thing. I'm going to talk about this in a sec.
I'll tell you a story that goes along with this in just a second. Hang on there. The most important thing in any business, if you have right now, are leads.
That's it. So if you're running a business right now, that's what it is. As Alex Harmoni says, if you have enough leads, you never go hungry. And I will tell you, I've got a whole bucket full of clients who in the past six or eight months, past year, because of the way the economy is these days, suddenly leads are hard to get.
And I don't typically help clients get leads. That's not what I've done. But one day I turned around, I said, well, listen, my clients can't get leads. They can't do business.
They can't grow. I got a problem. What do they want? They want leads. So I get leads all the time. I'm pretty good at it. I just never actually work with people to do that.
So I turned it around a couple of months back and I said, okay, let's fire it up, guys. And they're like, well, how are we going to do that? I said, let's go.
Leads are everything. If you don't have leads coming into your business right now, you will not have a business. You're hoping, wishing, praying. That's not how you run a business.
A business should get out of bed every single day and drive leads, period. Don't know how? Learn. Next point. And the next important thing, I think, is your offer.
What you offer your customers. Get it right. Everything else is easy. So this is the story I want to tell you. My wife is getting a new car, and we decided to buy a Tesla Model Y.
It didn't go performance, went premium, just it was enough for us. But when you go into this kind of Tesla world, you kind of go into this new ecosystem. You've got to figure out charging and all that. It's really kind of different.
If you haven't been down the road, it's like driving an iPhone. It's kind of different. So I'm trying to work on the charging thing, and I'm looking at electricians and figuring out kilowatt hours and all that kind of stuff. And finally I said, let me find somebody who does this.
Not an electrician, not some handyman. Let me find somebody who does this. Someone found a company who specializes in installing Tesla chargers. I looked at their ad.
They booked an appointment with me. I got on the phone. And I knew what I wanted to pay. And they said, this is what we do. This is how long it takes.
And this is what you'll get. And this is what it costs. I said, done. Send me the proposal. Well, as soon as you will do that, then if you pay $100, we'll put you on the calendar.
I paid it in 30 seconds. I went further. I said, get this done right. I'll pay you sooner. Why? They made me an offer that I just wanted. I said, done.
It's like having your air conditioning go out in Florida on July 17th and it's 98 degrees and 90% humidity. I don't care. The only thing I want is you say, here's my offer.
I can get there in five minutes. Done. I don't care what the price is. Leads and offers, guys, if you run a business. What's the other part where most people get in trouble?
Fulfillment. Fulfillment is the foundation of your business. It's what you do, right? So what you have to do is figure out how to deliver what you promise and then do it over and over again.
Now, here's the problem that happens. Most of you all out there get so caught up in fulfillment, you forget about leads and offers. And suddenly you're so busy trying to deliver, deliver, deliver to the people who become your customers that You run out of new customers and your customers will leave eventually.
It just happens. They don't stay forever. And suddenly you're like, oh, you freelancers are the worst. You know this. You know the cycle, right? Get a job.
Work on the job. Suddenly the job is done. You forgot to go leads. Now you're out of money. That last paycheck, it better last a couple of weeks, right?
So you got to really get the fulfillment thing down. It has to go like clockwork. Ultimately, that's your business. Look at a McDonald's. Look at a Chick-fil-A.
Look at anything. What do they do? Well, they market all the time. But for the most part, they just show up and make burgers or chicken. Do that, you get a line around the block.
Next, throw it all, never give up. You will want to for sure. Whether it's your business, it's your career, or anything you decide that's important to you that you're going to go after, it's going to be harder than you think and you're going to want to quit. But you don't get what you want if you quit.
You just don't. One of the things people come to me for is because I'm so optimistic. I'm like, whatever. I get knocked down, but I stand up and go, okay, let's go.
I just figure it out. I don't know how I got that, but I know that's how it has to be. You need to do that too. Two more points. Got to get out of here.
In business, it's always about the money. Money is everything in business, period. That's the scorecard, period. That's your value. That shows your value, period.
If you keep score any other way other than money and you run a business, you have a hobby. All freedom has a price. Running a business costs a lot. It also gives you the most freedom if you run it right.
Pay attention to that, okay? Everything has a price. Don't get mad at the price. Just decide to pay the price. Napoleon Hill said that. You must pay the price.
And finally, let your passion drive, okay? Let your passion drive everything. You know I'm a passion purpose guy, right? Let it drive it. But I'm also a very logical guy, a practical wisdom guy.
Talk to me directly. You'll hear it right away. You'll hear it on these podcasts. I love passion. I want that right in the front. But then my business logic kicks in and I'm going to do the math.
And if the math don't math, I ain't doing it. Run it that way, you'll get a better, more successful business. So you see, if you don't run a business, if you're an employee and you think that you get your paycheck from the bank, not the boss, we need to work on that attitude, right?
See how these things work? It's all human. And listen, if you're ready to go beyond the boost, take control of your business, grow your life, do both, go to motivation2move.com. You can work with me directly.
You can join my school group. You can get my free stuff. You get all the podcasts. Motivation2move.com. I'll see you tomorrow.
