how are you come on in here good to have you here today thank you for stopping by all right a very very cool story for you today that actually started with well frankly me a long long time ago but also this lesson came from my son and i have taught this again and again and again to clients over the years just kind of a little bit of a

an epiphany, a little clarity that makes you think a little differently, and I think you're going to have a good time, particularly if you feel like you want to be a rock star in life, all right? And who doesn't want to be a rock star, right?

It is a daily boost from MotivationToMove.com, a positive boost you see need every single day. Sorry, I was just thinking about Nickelback. Rock star. I like that song.

Can I say that? Is it okay to say Nickelback? I mean, they've got a really strange reputation. I never got it because I actually like their music. Anyway, good to have you.

My name is Scott Smith. Thanks for stopping by. Good to have you here today as we dig in. Yeah, rock star status today just for you. And something really cool to think about.

People suffer this all the time. It's just choice where you are in life and what you choose to be. I'm not going to spill my popcorn in the lobby. I'm not going to tell you right now.

You've got to give me about 30 seconds and then I'll get into the story for you, okay? But first, big problem I'm having with some clients. And it's a big problem I've had for a very long time. These are my business clients.

These are guys that run big practices, big businesses, make a lot of money, plus my side hustle people. Mostly it's my side hustle people having this problem.

They can't figure out where to get leads. Leads are the lifeblood of every business. And they can't figure out how to convert them into a customer, meaning you have to make them an offer to become a customer. They can't figure out how to do that.

And there's a lot of training out there on this, but very few people actually talk about those two sides of it together at the same time. We're going to do that inside Face Your Passion in October. I call it fund your passion because ultimately here's the big issue.

If there's something in life that you want to do differently than what you're doing right now, if you don't like a job anymore, if I could just find a way to get out of this, if I could find a way to pay the bills, I'd do it, right?

That's why I call it fund your passion. So we provide that part of it. We don't do the whole deep business training, but certainly figure out how to get the foundation laid for you. So if you're interested in that kind of thing, go to faceyourpassion.com.

Join right now. It's half price until we get to a hundred people. That's the founder rate. And then it's gone. And I will double the price, and that'll be that.

Get in early. It's good for you. So a funny thing happened to me and to you and to everybody else I know, including my son, Austin, who is now old. He told me that, Dad, I'm old.

Austin is now the age I was, almost. He's two years less, two years younger than I was when I met Joy, my wife, who I've been married to now for almost 20 years.

That's a little scary. Even your son's that age, right? But when you get out of high school, you enter the real world and your dreams change. Now, when Austin was in his early 20s, he was bound and determined to be a rock star.

And he was heading to a bunch of things, but he wanted to go to Los Angeles to pursue his dream. He was going to play guitar and sing. He wanted to be a singer in a rock and roll band, and he did a bunch of it. He was out there.

He was making all the CDs at the time, the whole thing, did the Whiskey A Go Go open mic nights and all that kind of stuff. But there was one real problem going on here with him.

He wasn't that good. We've talked about it before. He was good, but he wasn't that good. But he was on a mission to achieve his goal. But when I heard his idea, when he wanted to do that, my question was, what happens when you become just a member of the band instead?

And he didn't know what to do with that. What happens when you become a member of the band instead of the rock star? He was very perplexed. I don't know if he was angry or confused.

It seemed like the concept of playing any other role never occurred to him. I said, would you be okay with that? Are you willing to do just what it takes to rise to the top, just to be in the band?

If you don't get what you want, you're still going to be happy. Because ultimately, if you're a musician, for most people, they don't get to be rock stars. They play bike week. They play weddings.

That's what ends up happening. And he said he wouldn't be happy. He said, I'm a rock star. That's what I'm going to be. Well, he ultimately began to do that.

He began his journey and began to go down that road. But he began to find it another way. And this happens a lot for a lot of people. He began to find it in his world was graphic design and got into the internet and did lots of cool things.

It really began to take off. It became a rock store in that industry. It did very, very well. Like IPO kind of stuff really well. Like take care of dad in retirement really well.

That kind of stuff, right? No, no. He's just my backup man just in case. Just saying, wink, wink, right? But I see this with clients all the time. So the question is this, you know, when you set up to do something, a lot of people want to be, they want to be an influencer.

They want to be leading something. Some people don't. Some people like to be in the back. I'm kind of a combination. I'm a, I'm a very creative frontline kind of guy, but I'm also a technical guy, a guy who understands the producing role in the back end for what I do.

And I tend to be very happy both areas, which is why you don't see me run around doing a bunch of speaking and stuff like that. I'm not driven just to be on stage, just to be on stage. I, I have other interests. It took me a long time to figure that out.

My question to you is, Are you a rock star or not? Now, there's something I want to dig into with this as well. You'll notice something. Now, let's stay in the rock star, the band kind of thing, all right?

If you get in a band, you're going to find people who will sing in the back. They'll sing, be a backup singer, maybe play guitar, maybe bass, or maybe keyboard, drums, whatever. They'll do all that stuff. And if asked to sing a song, they will step up and sing a song.

They'll do the lead. But there are some people who won't do anything else. They only sing lead, period. They don't even hold a guitar. They just sing lead, period.

And if you ask them to do something else, they'll say no. Now, I will tell you, because I'm a little bit of a mix, I have that trait about me. I know exactly what I do well. I know where I'm happy doing it.

And my opinion has always been, well, listen, if I want to be the guy on the front of the band, if I want to be the rock star in the band, Well, not everybody can be a rock star. I said, but that guy got to be. So why can't I be?

When I got into this business, when I want to do a big podcast, people say, come on, there's too many podcasts out there. I said, well, yeah. Well, there are people doing big podcasts. Why can't I do a big podcast?

Fact is I can't. It's just a decision you make. So in all the coaching I do and everybody I talk to all the time, one of the things I, or very early on the conversations, maybe the second call, maybe the third at the very latest, we have to have this conversation.

Do you want to get there and lead? Do you want to go all the way? And when I say rock star, you could just be the head of a corporation. It could be anything.

There's nothing to be a musician, right? Do you want to do that? Or are you okay sitting back a little bit? Some people are perfectly okay to have a job.

Others would never think of a job. Something I ask for clients all the time. Clients will say to me, hey, man, somebody called me and they offer me a job. I've been building my business with you for a year and a half now.

That's what we do to some clients. I said, well, is it even an option to take that job? But see, for me, it's not a option. I'm not going to take the job.

I suppose I would if the price were big enough. A million dollars a year. You never get to talk to me. You just get to pay me. That's kind of my qualification right now.

Nobody's taken it yet. I don't know why. Is it even an option that you would do that? I have a client as well. I won't say his name. Struggled running his own business for the very long time.

Worked for other people occasionally as a freelancer, but struggled doing his own thing because, again, the leads and the conversions and all the things we have to do to actually run a business. You know the part nobody wants to do? You get in the business to do the fun stuff, and then you got to do the other stuff too.

I struggled with that. Finally, he took a job. He fought to take the job. Just the other day, he's been at it for maybe four months now. You know what he said to me?

He said, this is not too bad, man. I have a day off. Nobody's sending me an email. I'm just hanging out doing my thing. I got two days off and I got all this vacation.

You know, the last full-time job I had, I walk in and HR said to me, okay, well, we're just going to pay you every two weeks. So give me your bank information. And then you just have to get two weeks vacation a year.

I said, wait a second. You mean, let me understand this. All I have to do is come here every single day, five days a week and kind of stay the hours you say to stay. And you're just going to pay me no matter what.

Yeah, that's how it works. You've never run a business, have you? Because you show up every day and still not get paid. But I don't like that life. I chose a different rock star path for myself.

There's a price to pay, and there always is. Remember, the rock star, the lead singer, that's all they will do. Sometimes they don't get to do it because there's only one spot. They just sit on the bench or go find another band.

So whenever I work with anybody, back in the back of my mind is trying to figure out, are you a rock star? Are you okay being the backup band? Which one are you? And it's okay either way, but you've got to be honest about what you are.

I think, frankly, most of the people that I meet are perfectly okay kind of being part of the band, being part of the ensemble, if you will. But there are a few.

There are a few. And, man, they're special, but they're only special once they finally say, that's all I do. So which are you? I don't know what to think about today, right?
