So in a couple of decades of coaching people, I have learned something. So do you have goals? Do you have dreams maybe that you want to make into goals? Do you have ambitions, desires, things like that?
A lot of people do. I love them. I have a lot of them. But I've learned something. I've learned that oftentimes we set the goal, we reach the goal, we accomplish a goal, and yet we don't get what we wanted.
We got the thing, yes. We got whatever we were going for, but we didn't get what we really, really wanted from it. Have you thought about that? I'm going to explain that today.
I've seen it so many hundreds, if not thousands of times. It's just become incredibly clear to me about that. And that's what we're going to teach you today. Okay.
So hang on for the ride. It is a daily boost from motivation and move.com. The original daily boost. Yes. There's an AI copy of me out there. It's really bad.
I don't even complain about it. It's so bad. If you want to listen to that one, have fun, guys. It's me, Scott Smith. Good to have you here today. You old school people out there, you old schoolers, you're thinking, wait a second, is Scott playing the original theme music that launched the show 20 years ago?
Yes, I am. Just over the weekend, I was thinking, you know what? I'm kind of done with the AI stuff. I'm done with the catchy. I just want to go back to what's comfortable.
So I pulled it back. I licensed the music. It's still sold. I hear it sometimes in videos. I've seen it in a film one time in the background. So it's still out there.
It's still very current. And I haven't used it for a year or so. So I'm going to bring it back. Well, we'll see how long it lasts. I am four months away from completing my 20th season.
My gosh, Scott, how do you create 5,800 plus podcasts? How do you do that? Pretty much one day at a time, guys, like anything else. So today, I'm going to go and do what most people are actually seeking.
Let me frame this completely around me for just a second so people can say, honestly, that Scott, you just talk about yourself. Because my gosh, if you're going to tell me that I'm going to do it, then I may as well go ahead and do it, right?
But once I'm honest, there it is. All right. So I've done all the stuff, man. I've done all these podcasts. I've taught so many people. I have all the hacks in the world.
I can fix pretty much anything in your life. And I really mean that truly. There's very little you can come up with and say, Scott, how do I handle this? And I can't pull it out of my little bag of tricks and say, do this.
Here's a framework. Go do it. I've just done it so long. I mean, that's all there is to it, right? But I've done it for myself first. But it took me a long time to figure out what I really wanted.
What was I going for here? Because sometimes you think you're going for the goal, you're going for the money, the house, whatever, all that stuff. And as you get older, things change a bit. There's no doubt about that.
But it took me a long time to figure out what I was going for. And finally, one day I said, it's just peace of mind. That's all it is. I just want to have a solid base.
And from that, one day I was on a coaching call and I recognized a bunch of my clients were having the same issue. And that's when I coined the term, I think it was about maybe two and a half, maybe two years ago at this point.
I coined the term, what you need is a peaceful base. And I recognize that's all I've ever really wanted. I could have all the success and fame, my level of fame, a little more than some people.
I could have all that I wanted, but if I didn't have the base solid, I was never going to be happy. I was only going to be chasing something. And I saw it in so many people. It's become kind of what I do these days.
And every single thing I do kind of rolls into this now. So that's what we're going to talk about today. So what is a peaceful base? Well, it's where you build from in your life.
You can't have a cool life on a hot mess. And so many people, they start out going after a goal because life is a hot mess. And that makes sense because we talked about quantum change. It means that when everything falls apart, you're like, that's it.
I'm done. I'm going to fix it. Boom. And you take off running, right? So everything's still a hot mess and you got to fix it. So what if you didn't have to operate from a hot mess?
What if everything was already fixed as much as it could possibly be? Things change all the time. I get it. But so many people set a goal and go after it in a state of crisis.
And then they achieve their goal and it doesn't work out. Or even worse, sometimes they have a really nice peaceful base and they set a goal to go after it and they get there maybe 20 years later. They're like, what happened? I thought I would have what I wanted.
I thought I would have it. But what do I have? I have a filled calendar. I have employees now. I got kids. I'm running all over the place. I was so busy working on my business.
I had kids late. So now I'm 52 years old and I got two-year-olds. All that stuff, right? What happened? I'll tell you what happened. You lost track of the base.
So let me give you a metaphor here. When you launch a rocket ship here in Daytona Beach, where I live, Port Orange, actually live in South and Port Orange. It's the nicer family side, right? Daytona is fun.
Port Orange is boring, but nice. But South me by maybe what, 40 miles is the Kennedy Space Center. They launch rockets from the Kennedy Space Center. And they launch a lot of them.
Some weeks we'll see it go three times. Sometimes we feel the sonic boom when they come down, of all things. So we see the rockets go up with their little itty-bitty rockets. They're easy.
They're little itty-bitty launch pads. If you go down there and take the tour, you'll say, hmm, that's a small launch pad. If you compare it to the Saturn V rocket, these things are tiny.
If you go to Texas where they launch the big rockets... They have launch pads that are deep and wide. And when those rockets go up, they pretty much shake all of Texas when it happens. When the rockets launch here, they don't.
What's my point? Well, if you want to launch something big, like a big goal, a big dream, a big ambition, you better have a solid foundation or you're not going to get there.
If you want little things, go for it. So a peaceful base is just having some control. I talked to my wife this morning. I was talking about this concept and, uh,
And she said, well, explain exactly what you mean so I can relate to it. I said, well, it's like you have your method of bookkeeping. She runs the books for our house and our business.
And every single morning before she has breakfast, or I think actually during her breakfast, she flips over her laptop and she balances her books. I would never do that. That's not my thing, but she does it. I just ignore her because it would drive me crazy if I didn't.
But she does it. That's her peaceful base. As long as she can do that and she can look at the numbers and know life is good, she's happy. That's a peaceful base.
So most people, like I said, are operating in crisis mode or you've ended up in a crisis mode and you didn't, through no default of your old, you actually were good at what you did.
Let me explain something here too so you get this. A peaceful basis is not a retirement plan. It's not, it's like, let's be peaceful, man. it's, it's actually very active.
It's, I want you to be an ambitious person who goes for whatever you want to do. And I want you to get there, which is why I want the solid foundation. Also, it's not necessarily about making money. We'll talk about that in a second here.
I'm a capitalist. I believe you should make money. You can't talk me out of that one. I think it's one of the greatest systems in the world. Make as much as you want to make or make as little as you want to make.
I don't really care. Be a minimalist. Doesn't really matter to me. Do whatever you want to do. However, All of us, whether we have a lot of money or no money, we need a peaceful base to rely on.
It's kind of like Maslow's hierarchy of needs, kind of an updated version. I apply it in a different way simply because who cares about Maslow anymore, right? Fundamentally, he was on to something really well, even though it's been challenged over the years. So in my case, I just saw this happen.
So let me get into the areas of peaceful base that I have determined to be the ones that that work for me and work for my clients and I think will work for you too that you need to pay attention to. And you've heard many of these before, but maybe you haven't heard them in relation to actually building a solid base of which you can build the rest of your life on.
Time. Your schedule serves you, not the other way around. Time is your most precious asset. That's why it's number one. If you don't have control of your time, you have control of nothing.
And you can control your time. I know it's hard. I know it's difficult. There's some conflict there. Nobody likes to say no to other people. Conflict, so you don't control your time, right?
If you haven't downloaded my Perfect Week Planner at perfectweekplanner.com, go get it. It will give you the time. It's so simple. A one-page PDF. It's so simple.
It's a 12-minute video. Watch the video. I'll explain how to use it. And then just use it one time. The next week, it gets so easy. Within two weeks, it'd be like autopilot for you.
Why? If you ask me what, you know, hey, Scott, can you make an appointment in six months for me? I'll say what day? Say Thursday. Yep. What time? Well, you want to check your calendar?
No, I know my schedule on Thursday. I just do. I know what it's going to be. That's what I want you to have. So time is your number one asset. It's the thing you have to control first.
We call it holding space. And I really mean that. It's not just getting control of your time. It's getting control and hanging onto it. So nobody ever takes it from you.
Number two, your body, physical health and energy. It's what you got, man. If you're under 40 years old, I know you didn't hear what I just said. If you're like 40 to 42, 43, the doctor's going to have a conversation with you soon, and you're going to go, oh, what happened?
I'm my dad now. I'm my mom now. It's coming. And if you're older than that, when you get in your 40s and your 50s and even 60s, you're going to see your body's going to be betraying you.
You're not going to do the things you wanted to do. I operate and move like I'm 40 years old because I work out all the time. Got to have a strong body, guys.
Got to protect your mind too. Mental clarity and emotional stability need to be maintained. It's a big issue these days. Social media, now AI, people are getting back crap crazy.
They are. So you got to work on that mind being clear. I do very hard cognitive tests. I work really hard at it. And sometimes I don't want to. I study deep.
I go deep into everything. Why? Why do we do that? Why do I do the AI coding and the things that I'm doing now? Why do I do that? I do that to maintain my mind, to make sure that I'm really working hard so I never miss a beat.
Because I got very young clients in their 30s and right up to 74. It's not me keeping up. It's me being faster than they are. I get it. Maintain my body and my mind, right?
Along with my time. How about money? I'm a capitalist. Money's good. Everything in your life comes down to two things. I'll talk about the first one now, the next one second.
One of the things your life comes down to is money. It is. It's controlled by you because you got to buy stuff, right? So if you don't have enough money, life is an issue.
If you have too much money, life is an issue, right? It's not okay how much you have, how much you want. It doesn't really matter. The fact of the matter is that money is a thing, right?
So we got to have to have that under control. Financial security provides true choice. If you haven't figured that out, Then we have to work on that lesson as well.
When you have enough money, you can do what you want to do. You have security. You have mobility. You need a new car and you have enough money. No big deal.
If your tires pop on your car, no big deal. Don't have enough money. It's a problem, isn't it? So a financial, a peaceful base made of financial security is key here.
And it could be as little or as much as you want it to be. I really could be anything you want it to be. I don't really care. I'm not going to judge you on that.
Just whatever works for you. I told you there were two things. Relationships. People. Your life is going to come down to the quality of the relationships you have with people.
Did Wayne Dyer say that? Connections are nurtured. They're not sacrificed. If you're just, if you're not really embracing those, listen, whether you do it or not, whether you pay attention to relationships or not, they're going to affect your life.
They're going to have an impact on you. So we have to do that. We have to consciously be aware of what we're doing with the relationships in our lives.
I get it. It's hard. You know why? Because there are people and people can be sometimes. And finally, spirituality. Do you believe in God or not? It's your choice.
Don't really care what you do. I do care, but nonetheless, you can do what you want to do. Meaning and purpose anchor everything. If you haven't done that, if you haven't taken the time to figure out what life and your life means to you and what purpose you have in your life, if you haven't done that, that's not a good place to be.
When you have that figured out, you are able to launch anything from there, which is why you need to pay attention to that. You see why this is so important?
So depending on where you are in your life, you may be all hustle and grind. That's fine. You'll get to it later. That's cool. But I know something. I know very, very young people who very early on did something crazy.
They took control of their time, their body, their mind, their money, their relationships, and their spirit. And they did a little bit at a time and it compounded for 30 or 40 years.
And they did okay when they got done with it. So if you do nothing else today, I want you to look at any goal, anything you're doing, anything that's driving you crazy, anything that you just can't get control of, and think, I need to work on my peaceful base.
Now, I am opening a new community focused on that very soon. I'll tell you more as this week goes on, and maybe you'll want to be part of that. For now, I'll see you tomorrow on The Daily Boost.
